Originally posted by Shadic They lied to us at election time. The previous government had its own filtering regime: a local-machine based one which parents could voluntarily install, and which was shown to be circumvented easily by a kid within days. Both the previous government and the new one have been pressured to "fix" that by implementing ISP-based filtering. At the time of the election, both parties claimed this would be also voluntary: it was only mandatory for ISPs to make it available, but you could choose not to use it. This was a lie. Then it was said there would be the ability to opt-out of the filter. This was also a lie. But no matter how unpopular this is it's not getting changed: the Australian Christian Lobby or whatever they're called is being a pain in the arse, and the Government probably thinks its better to appease them than to listen to the public: the public isn't as much of a pain in the arse at the moment. Which is why anti-censorship protesters need to find a way to BE a pain in the arse. Protesting in the streets, and letter writing isn't enough: it won't dent the fear the government has of the Australian Christian Lobby. ____________________ |
