I should've brought my Ubuntu Livedisk USB to school

They upgraded to IE 7, and disabled tabs

And all of a sudden Mibbit no longer loads.

Pain in the ass this is. :|

I never disable tabs on my web browsers... and in some browsers, I don't think you can even disable the tabs

Besides, I can't post or check Jul from work anyway, since I'm at a cash register

I'm so used to tabs, I can't imagine not using them. I used to use separate windows, but nowadays I often have AIM, IRC, and other stuff open too.

I generally have about 15-25 tabs open for all my Internet things I have going on, and I recently switched to Safari. And I can't do tabs in it yet. It sucks.

I'm a single-window, single-tab kind of person, but disabling tabs seems silly to me.

They had New Window disabled up until they upped to IE 7 too. Had to go open another window in the start menu.

No desktop icons, no rightclick. Hardly anything really.

Sounds like the 'security' that was on the computers at the library I used to work at.

fyi: If it is, the default key combo to bring up the disable dialogue is Ctrl-Alt-Shit-F7. Our password was 'denied'. Not sure if that was default or not. Might be worth a try, but unlikely it's even the same program.

High school computers are like, fucking mandated to have the followed on their computers no matter where you go: right click disabled, task manager disabled, IE 6 or 7, no Firefox allowed, no command prompt, etc etc etc.

College computers have like, a choice of every browser you want and none of that blockage, with the exception of command prompt for security.

I don't think my high school did much with filters, if anything. Instead, the librarians would check on you frequently and if you were doing anything not school-related, you were off the computers for 2 weeks even in any computer classes you may have been attending

My high school computers had cmd.exe blocked, but not COMMAND.COM. Hehe.

Fact: Computers at work are still using IE6.

Another fact: FP's high school restrictions match my work restrictions to a T.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Firephoenix's sound like my high school, as well. You could get around certain things, and for the first 2 years, you can log in to "this computer" as admin with no password, which was pretty neat.

Some computers also had the thing to allow spying, which would slow the 400Mhz P3s to a crawl.

Haha, I remember that. You could even take control or hide any screen.

I got over that by disconnecting the network cable momentarily, letting it crash itself, then plugging it back in. In earlier years, I just changed the port it waited for connections on to 31337
