Just wondering if I was the only one who always ends up randomly holding down a key without even noticing.

I just realised I was holding down E (one of the keyboard browsing shortcuts in Opera, apparently) when I noticed that random stuff was being highlighted without me doing anything.

I always end up holding down Z to run whenever I'm playing a platformer as well, and not realising - so I'll change to IRC or whatever and end up typing "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

No, though if I'm feeling particularly lazy I might end up pushing something by accident for a second or two, but that's more a function of my keyboard on the crappy lappy being exceptionally sensitive.

Nope, but it's happened a few times that while typing, one of the keys would stay pressed by itself and keep sending input until I hit it again so it raises.

That happens to me on my main laptop's keyboard whenever it reboots. Shift, Control, the Windows key, and Alt would sometimes "stick". This would usually result in a mess.

It seemed to actually happen to any key, as evidenced by some programs. I've had ZSNES detect a stuck W/R button (L/R) to kill me in Tetris Attack, and Aiya could probably tell you of the times I was in Phantasy Star Universe where the left button was stuck so bad everything I typed came out backwards.

My keyboard has been relatively stable. Although recently, sometimes it will randomly unplug itself I notice because first I end up getting dropped keys (I have to press several times for something to show up) and then I can't type altogether.

No, I don't understand why either. It's a PS/2 wired keyboard; plugging it back in always fixes it.

Yep, but it's only happened a few times, thankfully.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Usually with shift or control or something.

I had an old PS/2 keyboard that would have sticky shift keys, making some older games that used shift for something, but couldn't be reconfigured a bit difficult to play.

....actually, if I get something stuck in a key and I have to try to get it out, then I'll look up and a text box will have a bunch of HHHHHHHHHHHH's in it.

I had problems with my shift key a while ago, but they've disappeared. I'm not sure why This keyboard has been mostly fine though, I've had it for almost 4 years now and it's still working great.

I wish my mice ran as well as this keyboard.

Not usually holding them down, but I'm clumsy and my fingers often hit 2 or more keys at once while I'm typing.

I've done this, but I don't think I've ever held down a key randomly.

Oh yeah, I'd get stuff like that if I held down Shift too long while trying to figure out which character to copy from code in a book, or playing pinball, or whatever.

I have had, on XP, 2k, and Vista, where I turn off sticky keys, tell it to not use the shortcut, and 5 minutes later, it pops up: "You have pressed the Shift key 5 times, would you like to turn on Sticky Keys?"

I hate when I accidentally enable StickyKeys or FilterKeys, etc., so I remembered to disable the shortcuts

Also, when I try to (un)pause a game in an emulator by hitting Enter, I sometimes focus on the wrong window and end up doing something like putting CRs in a text file or opening an icon on the desktop

I don't like how VBA maps space to fast-forward even when it is not the active window. It makes it hard to type in another window at the same time.

I hate it so much when emulators do things like this Dolphin does it with the mouse. If I click on the taskbar or in some windows, I'll end up pressing the A button in game.

Older versions of Dolphin used to have that problem with keys too. That was really annoying!

Also, DOSBox (sometimes) and ZSNES trapping the mouse pointer within the window, so I have to Alt-Tab out to use something else at the same time.

I forgot about those too! I tried Ragnarok Online a few months ago and it did that it pissed me off and it was a boring game overall, so I just uninstalled/deleted it.

SSF (a Sega Saturn emulator) used to do that with the keyboard, if I had my keys mapped to it
