And when you register, the board treats every thread since the founding of the board as NEW, so if you don't know to mark the fora read, you get huge numbers of NEW threads listed.

I hate having to hit "Mark forum read" for each individual forum I'm not interested in... it would be better just to click the "NEW" icon (like on some other board systems)

#x single-handedly killed the board activity. You can thank Bitmap, Terra, Schala, me and Bob-omb8194 (among others) for that.

I actually find it kind of amusing that now no one is posting on the board and #x is extremely active. I remember some days no one would talk in #x at all.

While having #x be more active is a good thing (just about any amount of activity would be a good thing in that channel), it shouldn't take most of the activity from the board. There should be a balanced amount in each place, not just on one of the two.

Being away from home is why I wasn't able to post much lately.

I think the activity will balance out eventually. Today might be my fault, as I just checked #x on a whim this morning and talked to Treeki for a bit, then it snowballed.

It's like when many people from Jul started attending Onyx's Livestreams instead of posting in the evenings. Eventually, things evened out and Jul became active again.
