I buy new socks every year; however, I don't have any stairs here (just commercial-style rug), so I don't have to worry about slipping all the time

My parents' house, which they've lived in since 1997, has only 1 floor and no basement, and since then I've only lived in apartments, so I'm not used to having stairs within the actual home (as opposed to elsewhere in the building).

Hardwood stairs and socks are a bad combination.

Also, the kitchen in this house is hardwood, and random spots will be ice-slick. Couple of times where I'll be trying to round a corner and almost end up on my ass. And I've got quite good balance.

When I was 5, I spindashed down the stairs. Somehow, I avoided injury.

Later, when I was about 17, I was carrying the cat and a computer powersupply, and flew down one flight of them, launching the contents of my arms. The cat and power supply survived, but my legs didn't like me for a few days after that.

A friend of mine slipped down the stairs a couple of weeks ago and as a result had to miss a couple of days of school to recover (his back was in pretty bad shape

). My dad also fell down the stairs last Wednesday but luckily our stairs are covered with a carpet so he wasn't too badly injured.

Oh, I totally forgot! Senior year of High School, I sorta tried to jump down most of a flight of stairs. Bad idea, but slowing down at the last second as I reconsidered was what got me. My left heel caught on the very last step, and the toe of that foot ended up taking all the weight.

I uh, sprained my ankle. And slipped down the second half of the stairs. (They were extremely slippery for some reason.) My girlfriend at the time also apparently ran past me at some point, but didn't bother seeing if I was alright.

I borrowed some crutches from her for a week. Which my Mom didn't want me to use, for some reason. :specialed:

Another kid called me a pansy for using them. Keep in mind, this is the same guy who went to the doctor when same girlfriend kicked him in the shin for saying something dumb.

We have carpeted stairs in my house but occasionally one of us will slip a little. My brother often falls UP the stairs but we have a hunch he does that on purpose sometimes.

Yeah, probably.

He was one of those types to grossly exaggerate any physical feat of his. He could jump over 7 foot fences, was ambidextrous, etc. Granted, that never came with any proof.

I was actually pretty proud that I was walking again in a week. It was a pretty decent sprain. I mean, I fell eight feet or so.

We have carpeted stairs, but I still slip sometimes. Often when I'm running up the stairs and don't raise my foot high enough and trip on the next step.

I remember doing somersaults down the carpeted stairs back when I was like ... a little kid. I never really got seriously hurt except for one time that I don't even remember when I was barely two years old and I tried it at my grandparents' place, which did NOT have carpeted stairs.

It could have been worse though. I could have been in an Escher painting and fell sideways and ... up.

A long time ago when there was a few feet of snow next to the driveway after shoveling, I decided to jump off the pile. I happened to land on a sheet of ice, and my downward momentum more or less continued when once my feet were on the ground. I ended up flat on my back and banged my head on another sheet of ice. Somehow I didn't really get hurt though. I think kids are at least partially invincible.
