I don't think that I'll have any trouble being here on Christmas since I'm not going to be leaving the house at all (we used to visit relatives on Christmas day although in recent years we haven't been doing that ).

Not sure how much time I'll have to be here. I'm waking up early and driving two hours to see my dad. He doesn't have a computer. Then driving back and having dinner at the in-laws.

And I used dialup for quite a while, actually... back in 1998 to 2003, and again in 2006... and I sure as hell don't want to have to deal with dialup again!

I had dialup until 2005, because my parents' little village didn't have broadband service. They have it now though, but for a while I always was reluctant to visit them and get away from my home broadband

I wonder how (in)active Xmas will be here. I should be on, but maybe not for a while.

My parents had Great Lakes Internet, a tiny local company that I think is still the E-mail address in my I1 profile. Now, they have AT&T DSL. I have Comcast cable at my apartment.

I've been using Road Runner for years, but they sometimes have service problems around here... they even gave me a defective modem once

Luckily I got that resolved quickly... I also get standard cable (no digital) from TWC along with the Road Runner (didn't want a landline here...) for a reasonable price

Come on, $52/month for landline service for a phone that has fewer features than a mobile phone for which $83 worth of minutes lasts 6 months? Sheesh!

I haven't checked around here in a while... mainly because I often had Time Warner Digital Phone (rather than Verizon)... which usually comes with digital cable and Road Runner...

I suppose if I need a landline eventually, I can consider upgrading my TWC service

Probably Older people are more likely to mostly have the Internet around for E-mailing the (grand)kids. They would probably still get their news and weather from newspapers, radio, and TV.

My parents, both 57, are more computer savvy because they've had computers since the '80s though. My mom is an AIM user and uses the Internet for news and political Web sites, plus using Wikipedia for fact-checking. She watches YouTube and other videos, too.

I doubt she'd come here. If she did, she'd probably have some unimaginative name like "Terra's Mom"
