I enabled multi-voting for people with multiple computers.

As for me, I tend to turn it off when I'm not using it, but sometimes nowadays I will go to the store or something and just leave the computer on. When I was growing up, leaving any unused electrical device turned on was about on the level of armed robbery in my house.

"ARE YOU STILL IN THE KITCHEN?"

"Uh, no."

"THEN WHY IS THE LIGHT STILL ON IN THERE? YOU'RE WASTING ELECTRICITY! YOU'RE WASTING MONEY! FOR EVERY SECOND THE LIGHT STAYS ON, YOU ARE KILLING 50000 KITTENS! TURN THE LIGHT OFF RIGHT NOW OR ELSE!"

"Yes, Dad." *grumble grumble*

So yeah, I wasn't able to leave the computer on either, or leave the NES on with the TV off to save game progress, etc. Now, it's just force of habit, although I tend to leave lights on in my apartment

I keep my laptop on 24/7 unless I am travelling somewhere, updating Windows, my battery dies, or if I just feel like starting a completely fresh session.

I turn the computer off when I know I will be gone for a certain length of time, like when leaving for work.

"Game" being SMB3.

No wonder it started crapping the VRAM when it was at world 8.

If my computer is off, it means something bad has happened. Or the power simply went out.

If I am going to be out for a long time... I guess I'd turn it off. But "long time" to me means a very long time.

To be honest, I turn mine off at night. It saves electricity, and money. Plus, it has problems, and there isn't any reason to leave it on.

I always leave all my computers on save my laptops. My desktop acts a media server to my media box connected to my T.V. so I turn that off I lose the convenience of having all my roms, movies, music, etc. accessible at the click of a switch on my T.V. (s).

I normally keep this computer on for the network with all the roms I have for Homebrew.

I can't remember the countless times I've left a game running(because I wasn't at a save point or something) only to have it shut off by one of my many siblings who wanted to play a different game.

I leave my computer on at night... mainly because I'm often too lazy to turn it off, and it actually uses less energy to leave it on rather than switch it on and off all the time

Also, I often leave Pidgin on 24/7 whenever I can... (I also leave folders, Firefox, etc. open too )

I leave my computer on because it starting up without crashing is a random proposition, and I don't want to roll the dice every day. Better to do every couple days.

I turn my computer off, when I go away for a while, or when I sleep. On school days, I turn it on, when I get back to home (about at 5 PM), on weekend, at about 10 AM. So when I'm not at home, I turn it off generally.

I turn it off whenever I go to sleep, laptop included. I also turn it off if I'm going somewhere for a long time and won't be home. Not much of a point for me to leave it on if I'm not there to use it.

I've been leaving it on all the time ever since I got my own computer, for a few reasons:

- I don't have to wait through the boot/shutdown process (although it's fairly fast here)
- I don't have to restart all programs everytime
- I can leave things open (programs, things I work on, etc.) for weeks or months
- MillyBot and acmlm.cjb.net

The long uptime stat is only a bonus

Shiny new layout!
----------------------------------------------------

I usually leave it on all night, mainly because I tend to get pestered at weird hours by people asking questions after I go to sleep. That and if my computer starts up after a while all the mechanical parts starting up again sounds like a monster

If I'm going on a trip, it depends. I may or may not remote home back at some point so I may or may not turn it off.

The laptop is always asleep/hibernating when I'm not using it.

I don't really turn off my computer. Well, I turn it off, but put it in hibernation mode so that I can quickly get back to doing stuff when I have to instead of waiting for five minutes for everything to load up again.

My computer never goes off. ever.

Unless there's like a power outage or I need to install updates or replace a part. Or move.

Turned off when done with it. We cannot afford to keep things on as the electric bill tends to kill us.

If I'm at thome, I just keep it running, also when going to do something outside, but only for shorter intervals, like 20 minutes. I do the same with any bigger electronic device, like TV or radio - just don't like these running when I'm not at home (of course this is excluding devices like a fridge ). Any longer period or when I'm going to sleep (which is usually in between 23:00 and 0:00 CET) -> off. Simple as that.

Apart from that I cannot sleep if the machine is running. It uses the boxed fan, which came with the CPU, but still I want "silence" when I'm attempting to sleep. It even isn't that much noise for nearly all applications usually, but an Orthos run with two instances (to assign two cores each and all RAM) at 100% CPU usage makes this thing really loud (again, you won't to this every day, but I have/had stability issues to make it run - it apparently turns out one RAM slot is not working properly, now using slots 1 and 3 respectively).

As for start up time, as Windows 7 is installed freshly and not too many programs yet, it takes about one and a half minute, until the desktop appears and everything has been loaded.
