Shiny new layout!
----------------------------------------------------

To be honest, the only thing about chrome I like is the fact that the tabs are up out of the way.

I'm not upgrading to it if they're adapting IE's failure with its lack of file-edit-view etc. menus.

Stupid kids and their breaking things which work.

Yeah, I kinda don't like either. Minimalism for the sake of minimalism sucks. Just let the user be able to grab controls and move them where-ever the hell they want, like a more robust version of the system they already have, now. The combo button is neat, and should be offered as an option.

I hope that they make it just a completely different browser so I'm not forced to convert.

I like my Hatsune Miku extension, thank you very much.

I like how there are no mockups of the Mac version at all.

They better not Chromeify the Mac version.

That's the one reason I can't use Opera; it feels wrong to have the tabs above the toolbar.

On Windows ... I don't browse. So ... yeah.

Good thing they're only mockups.

I hope the menus will be optional, at least, and not completely gone. I could probably get used to tabs on top eventually, but it would feel strange for a while. (Of course, I keep my tabs on the side, so...)

Yes, why did computer companies spontaneously decide that menu bars, which have been around since at least the '80s, are suddenly bad? It's like when many video games removed their HUDs and make you hit Start or some other key to access a menu. I happen to like "clutter" when it's useful.

And with the compact theme I already use, I wouldn't even gain anything from hiding the menus (well, I'd get a larger address bar, but it's already large enough)

Other than that, it just looks like a redesigned/modernized interface made to match newer Microsoft trends (and Windows 7), and they don't show what it'd look like on XP/classic and non-Windows

On XP/Classic it'll, of course, look like Aero Basic, instead of adopting classic-style. Because, you know, not looking like a sky-blue turd is too hard to do.

I'm sure there will be extensions that allow bringing things back to the way they were/should be (tabs on bottom, menu bar, etc.), but... None of this should be happening, honestly. There are loads of people who can't figure out Office 2007 already, and Windows 7's lolribbonpaint sucks, so why extend that confusion and failure to Firefox?

I mean... Do they want to be overtaken by IE again? Oh wait IE does the same things. drama

Could they possibly show mockups where Firefox actually becomes a good browser? Does anyone wanna take a guess on how much RAM it's gonna use up? My guess is gonna be half a gig if it's open for more than an hour.

It's just UI consistency. I hate it as well, but eventually every app written for Windows 7 and up is probably going to adopt the ribbon toolbar and the corner file menu. Even Explorer is already on its way toward this. It's UI evolution; people complained about Windows 95's UI after the change from 3.x. Eventually everyone will get used to it. I think the Ribbon is a pretty stupid and counterintutive method from a design standpoint, but that's only because I've been using UI-driven computers since forever.

I am expecting the Mac version of Firefox to probably retain a look similar to how it already is. No surprise there; there have always been fundamental UI differences between the Mac and Windows (and UI-driven Linux, where it's already skinnable as hell) so I am expecting that we don't see any of these changes leaping to other platforms.

Firefox's RAM problems seem to only affect XP/Vista users, as far as I can tell.

I've had this particular instance of Firefox running for over a week, and it's only using 200MB of RAM. It was using over 1GB on my laptop at a single time, but I'm willing to bet it was a flash issue - after closing one or two tabs with flash running, it dipped back into the 100MB range.

I don't see this new interface being an issue to me at all, though... I guess change just doesn't bother me very much.

Why, oh why, must Mozilla copy Google Chrome? At least I hope they keep the menus as an option, otherwise I might have to stay with Firefox 3.x...

Anyway, I like my old-style menus... I don't care if they're at the top of the screen or in the window itself, I just can't stand the ribbon bar

This UI evolution can go leap off a cliff and die. I'm going to refuse to use anything which uses this devolution in UI; as it is, my WS_FTP 95 LE is superior to newer versions UI wise, just as I manage to survive without updating Firefox a ton.

I'll just keep the same Firefox version until either A. there's an add-on to restore the old file menu, B. I figure out how to restore it using source code, or C. another Mozilla-descendant appears which ignores this UI Devolution entirely.

We must stop this UI devolution by refusing to use anything which has these weird and stupid controls. If I feel bored enough, I may just try and launch a campaign against it...

...Because it's just stupid.
