I'm taking a break from City of Heroes. Heh, after five plus years I'm trying to get away from it. There's a lot of games coming out next year and I've done so much with CoH over that time, that I don't think I should be paying $14.99 a month for a game that I don't play that much anymore.

So I've been thinking.

Is there a free trail of World of Warcraft that I should/could try? I just want to see how it is. And I know, I've made fun of Wow players and I've been keeping myself from actually playing it, but I'm just curious.

If I do start playing this, is there any server that I should be on? I used to solo a lot in CoH and I've been on teams, so I would like to try to play with someone from here that could show me the ropes.

OMG, I can't believe I'm considering this....

When they had the free demos/betas, I liked WoW. I mean... I *REALLY* liked it.

But not enough to subscribe to it, obviously. :\ Maybe if it was cheaper...

You can get a free 10-day trial, it looks like. Off of the main site.

Here is your trial link.

I played on Sargeras, which is central and is pretty good in terms of server ranking (Economy, raiding guilds). I am considering coming back soon (Been clean for almost 3 months), definitely for the expansion as well. It is much better to play with someone who knows the game though, as you can shoot off questions and get answers fast. I have vast knowledge of the game, so if you want I can start up a trial at some point and play with you, or you can ask me anything on AIM/IRC.

The ten day trial is the basic one, so you could go for that. Obviously you're going to play on US servers so I can't say anything about them, but consider which server you'll take.

Normal - No PvP unless enabled
PvP - Certain areas are contested, you might be ganked
RP - Roleplaying, booyah!
RPPvP - Role- You are dead.

Very much depends on what class and race you pick. Some starting zones are quite awful...

Everquest I - got bored

Star Wars Galaxies - could have been sooo much better

City of Heroes - Loved it.

That's weird, I just started a new character with a friend last night and we played for 4 hours. Got all the way to level 10. Any reasons you didn't like it? They totally redid a lot of the stuff for new players in the latest patch, heavily increasing health/mana regeneration up until level 10, auto applying skills to the hotbars and redoing the tutorials to be much more new player friendly.

Edit: And looking at your twitter, it seems like you got to the character creation screen and stopped there because you couldn't make a long character name or one with spaces in it. That's just wanting to not like the game

Pick a race, which appeals to you the most. Class-wise, in my opinion start either shaman or a hunter. Read the tutorials, do some quests, visit the capitals, try instances at slightly higher level.
