I know plenty of people who refer to their browser as "the internet", and if their browser is acting up, "the internet is broken" or something along those lines. I don't really bother to correct, it just gets more confusing. I remember a few years back when my parents were less tech savvy (they're a LOT better now), something would occasionally happen on my mother's laptop that made her IE or Firefox shortcut disappear, so I'd get called in to ask why "the internet is gone". Again, they've gotten a great deal better

Weighted Storage Cube Dispenser
Cake Slice
My parents still, after several years of me explaining it correctly, think that Office XP is an operating system, and ask me why I can't use it to install windows XP.

Technically, I would see that as a correct usage, but the Internet would be broken on their side. Plus, it's kind of a cover-all phrase for not being able to get online either due to the provider, router issues, etc., etc. for someone who wants a quick explanation of what's going on either due to time constraints or the person is an idiot and needs the most dumbed down phrase possible to explain said situation.

I refer to browsers as "the internet" just for fun.

I love my mom, but sometimes she can be quite bad at using any kind of technology. She still sends me screenshots by pasting them into Word and sending that in an email. I should really teach her about Paint.

That's hardly bad. She's taking screenshots without a camera.

I opened up my brother's computer when it was running really slow. It was packed with dust, cat hair, other crud, and a random alarm clock. No idea how that got in there.

My dad once sent me an email by composing the message in Word and sending the document, which was annoying as I didn't have Word. He did figure out how to do it properly after that first time though.

Maybe he was trying to increase the clock speed.

Did I mention that the guy who wants to do me has no idea what a virus is? I nearly headdesk'd at the very moment that it became obvious.
