Treeki, a contract is best, as it gives you however many texts and minutes you want, and UNLIMITED internet. Yeah, unlimited. The one I'm on gives me 500 texts, 600 mins and unlimited internet for £35 a month.
Another thing about contracts is you get the thing a whole lot cheaper, but it seems like you already got it. Sorry 'bout that. '

Yeah but I'm not in the UK so I can't use a UK carrier. I had to buy an unlocked phone because our carrier doesn't offer any subsidised phones, and it was ridiculously expensive (cost more than my computer did). It does work really well though.

I'm not interested in texts and minutes - the cheapest contract I can get here with decent internet is £41 a month (£12 for a basic line with £2 of free call/text usage, and £29 for "unlimited" up to 3GB internet)

I can get cheaper internet packages than £29, but the bundle is so small it's practically useless. The cheapest one is 1mb. The most expensive one is £25 for 25mb. Above that, it's £29 for unlimited (restricted to 3GB and some things like no VoIP and such, but I won't be using those)

Right now I have a prepaid card, 3G on it works fine but I am not going to pay £2.048 a megabyte. That's just far too unreasonable. So I turned data off, I'm just keeping it on locked until I can switch. No wifi here so I still haven't been able to use it online. Once I get it I'll be sure to post in this thread from it!

My first-generation iPod Shuffle and my first-generation iPod Mini have gone through hell and back in the years I've owned them, and they still work like a charm; I have even witnessed iPods that seriously went crunch and lived to tell the tale. In my experience, these things are nearly as tough as a typical Game Boy.
The only reason I would consider replacing them is because they can't really support my growing music collection.

I haven't had any problems other than the App Store crap. Although then again, I haven't tried to put anything on it through iTunes yet - for some reason, Windows recognises the phone as a digital camera, but it lets me copy photos/screenshots off it using Windows Explorer which is very useful.

I'm surprised they didn't bury that in iTunes too, actually.

I've always had a preference for non-Apple MP3 players, like the Sansa Fuze and the Zune... especially since you can expand the storage on the Fuze using micro SD cards, and the Zune is Microsoft, but also works on Macs... also, the Fuze supports OGG and FLAC... and they both have FM tuners, which the iPod doesn't have

Yeah, this happens with the iPod touch as well.
You know you can take printscreens by pressing the home and power buttons at the same time, right?

Two things:

1. Really old stuff (First gen especially) iPod/whatever tends to outlast the later generations. This is evidenced by how my first gen iPod Shuffle has outlasted a number of others which did nothing but freeze and die.
2. Obviously the generalization is not always true, but I have found it too often to be the case. While most of the Apple stuff my sister has bought has summarily broken, the non-Apple player I bought has lasted perfectly fine, although your mileage may vary.

Took me forever to figure that out, actually xD the only annoying thing is that when you do use Windows Explorer to get pictures off the phone (the only practical way I found other than tediously e-mailing myself each one), the pictures appear to show up in a seemingly random order as opposed to the order they were taken in, the way the phone itself displays it. I chalk it up more to Windows itself being weird, but its still kind of a pain to have to look through every single picture I've taken just to find one or two particular ones at a given time. Oh well ;x

If the phone displays them in chronological order, you could try sorting the files by Date Modified/Created/Taken. The default order might just be how it is stored internally.

Hmm...well, the thing that comes up for me doesn't appear to have that option. I'm using windows XP, and it takes me in to some wizard, basically, that just shows all the pictures and a checkbox to indicate which you want to upload, as well as a few buttons for rotating purposes. No sorting options or anything, its pretty basic, though I'm sure I could fool around with it more to see if there's a more advanced mode or the such. If it was a matter of viewing it like a folder then yeah, I'd be all set, but there doesn't seem to be that option.
