Many of you are dangerously close to being nuked into oblivion due to EXTREEM IDIOCY. If the IQ around here doesn't improve by some detectable amount, expect your posting privileges to be revoked with extreme prejudice. I don't feel much like hosting a daycare on my server.

That is all.

I've gone ahead and trashed all the closed threads to keep the "useless clutter" down.

If your thread mysteriously vanished, it's in a better place now. Leave it alone and move on.

I respect that this is your forums, therefore your rules. However, there is some hyper moderation going on here - and frankly I find your abusive replies to the idiots more offensive than the idiots themselves. I don't know if there's a happy middle ground to be found here, but I hope so. To an extent, people will be stupid. But educating them is far more effective than abusive threats and deleted posts.

There's a difference between an intelligent question that a user legitimately doesn't know and someone going "crap on your n64 and smash it".

Being a curious user needing help is fine. Being an idiot who won't read the most basic of help files is not.

Even somewhat unintellgible posts are okay, though some proficiency in typing is preferred. Consider the following:

1) my rom have v64 how do I sawp it.
2) VL-Tone. How you did start out for hacking of Super Mario 64?
3) How to add Bowser?

Number 1 isn't thought out too well, but there's a legitimate question there and the post probably won't get spit on. There's enough info to post a reasonable answer, but that kind of typing is discouraged.

Number 2 looks like English wasn't the person's first language. However, use of proper capitalization and punctuation shows that they made the effort to ask the question correctly, so minor grammatical mistakes will definitely be waived for this one.

Number 3 is perfectly understandable, but it would seem that whoever typed it had to get out of the house within the minute and really needed to post the question. Again, a legitimate query, but complete sentences are preferred; with verbs and subjects.

As for the rest of what has been happening, these posts will definitely be set on fire and removed with an industrial vacuum cleaner:

• My very first thread! Reply to it if you are inspired.
• Have you guys heard? Someone is hacking Super Mario 64!
• Post all your ROM links here. Here's mine: http://________/Super_Mario_64_(U)_[!].zip

Incidentally, I used • for the bullets on those... 'Cause in truth, they really are bull.

Use common sense. The board is reserved for discussion on hacking Super Mario 64, which includes the use of Toad's Tool 64. Make posts accordingly.

I think they're just trying to make sure this doesn't become SMW hacking again! =(

As a semi-retired ROM hacker, the kind of behavior they had gives this field a bad first impression. It's widespread enough to the point some incredibly skilled people get frustrated dealing with them and are rarely heard from again.

Pokemon hacking in particular. While I excuse editors being a little buggy at times, since the original games are coded oddly themselves... Hacks for any series that just outright suck tend can discourage further significant development.

I hack less often now due to incomplete tools, and the sheer amount of time it takes to make progress. Rather than n00bs.

There is a thin line between ignorance (What you're speaking about) and stupidity (the people banned currently for their topics.) In general, ignorant people will listen once given the truth and answers; but if they're stupid, they'll do the same thing over and over again and expect different results, thus resulting in people bashing them.

I didn't see this stuff when it happened here, so I don't know about this specific case. But I'm all for getting rid of idiots. Though the way people have been acting like packs of wild dogs and jumping on newbies whenever they make a mistake (see Board II) puts me off.

I'd prefer if the real idiots just got one post, by a moderator, that said why they were an idiot and why to fuck off. And if the non-idiots got help and constructive criticism like they should.

But what I really came to post about here is the fact that this forum is half stickies. Who's idea was that?

Ehm... I don't think any single mod had the intent of having half stickies here.

The first sticky I put was the bug report one. The idea was to avoid having one post for each single bug report. The second one that was added was to prevent having individual posts for "how do I do X". But, maybe it wouldn't be so bad to let people ask their questions as individual posts, it would certainly give a more lively look to the forum...

The "Post your screenshots etc." is an equivalent to a page on my blog which I intended to keep on my front page, like a sticky. Again, maybe not having this sticky would make the forum more lively, but we could end up with individual posts from someone that just did a single texture change.

Then there's the two "Listen UP" stickies. This one was added after some pretty idiotic behavior took place here.

So the problem I think is that the stickies cover all the main topics, and since many (stupid) threads were started and then deleted, nobody knows what kind of thread they're allowed to start... Hence the currently low number of non-sticky thread compared to the stickies.

Do you guys have any suggestions to improve the sticky/post ratio?

Drag's Post #137
The main people who were causing the idiocy are banned now, so I don't think we really need this thread anymore. I mean, I'd just imagine that many people who want to hack Mario 64 are younger people, just like the people who want to hack SMW, and POSSIBLY when those other users were posting MOVIES on YOUTUBE which explain how we were "wrong", and there's no way they were doing anything wrong, other users might get the wrong idea. (Then again, if other people *wouldn't* change their minds after knowing the actual non-biased truth, then we probably don't want them here anyway)

If anything, we might as well post the real story as to why those users got banned, because they were really going out of their way to do stupid things, it wasn't like an accidental slip-up or anything, they made a conscious decision to disregard the rules and post useless garbage (for example "To get Luigi, take a shit on your n64 and smash it to bits LOLOL", which was one of the things wrv posted, and the reason it was bad is because the post lacks intelligence, and has no real content, other than DURRRRRRR). To be honest, they seem like children, and a lot of the time, children tend to have more immature moments than older people do, not to mention a general lack of logic and reasoning. I'm not saying EVERYONE's like that, I'm just pointing out the general idea I'm getting, especially considering how each sequential generation of people seem to be getting dumber and dumber, but that's another story entirely.

On the other hand, we could just move past the incident entirely, but if we're really concerned about the lack of activity here, that may not be the best solution. And like I said, we're dealing with younger people here. They tend not to use the same logic, reasoning, and (especially) ethics that older people do, so we might have to refrain from just letting the issue go entirely.

How do most of the people on this forum feel about younger people posting here. I'm 13, but I want to hack SM64 to. If kids try not to act like idiots, can they still post and ask questions? Or will I annoy all of the grownups here?

I'm VERY new (A month) to SM64 hacking, but I've been hacking SMW for a bit of time now. (Well, not that long really, 3 months) When I look through various SMW discussions on the internet, I think that I DO have a disadvantage over grownup-hackers. It's harder for me to do stuff. But I still try, and I still want to be able to ask questions and have some help.

That said, I don't consider myself and idiot, and I certainly don't TRY to be an idiot, but that doesn't mean I won't act like a child, which you may deem an idiot's post.

Wow, I have a habit for rambling on and on without getting to the point. To sum things up, my question is this, can children post here as long as they do not try to act like idiots?

I think it was basically the point that, as long as you have at least half a brain (which you do seem to have), you're fine.

I'm pretty sure he's just against people going HEY GUYS LUGISIZ IN HERE!11

Yeah. I haven't hacked any games in a long tome, mainly due to the constant idiocy of most of the hacking community. I don't feel like being grouped in with them, honestly.
It's not that I don't think it's fun, it's just...

I feel too many people (see: 13 year olds) might feel like they have a shot at real game development just from hacking a ROM. With a program. That uses a GUI.

That's just my two cents, though.

I don't know why I put this here.
This thread has served its purpose. The relevant content has been moved to another topic.
