Progress .

I'm really looking forward to this. If this comes out within the next year or two then my next hack will most likely be created with it .

It should be out by the end of this year if all goes well.

Awesome

This is one of those games I've wanted to hack for a long time. Yeah, I know I can hack the NES versions

You sooooo just totally and utterly jinxed yourself bigtime by saying that. You just added a bunch of pressure on yourself and gained yourself a bunch of annoying fans asking and pestering you why you haven't released it come Jan 1st.

I've seen this happen numerous times. I really hope I'm wrong though. Great work so far by the way.

It's no problem. I already get enough annoying fans asking if only SMB1 will editable when I've said several times all games will be eventually.

Oh boy! MushROMs will now make backups for you on every save (separate backups with a timestamp). Also, all three editors can be docked to the main form.

You are really making a huge effort to make this as user-friendly as possible. I commend you on that, I really do. Most of these hacking apps completely ignore such considerate features like docking windows and back-ups and such. Great work man. You have inspired me to take a second look at some of my projects for school and give em some more friendly features.

Also, a small request: Next time you post a screenshot of a feature or whatever, can you maybe have it show some SMB2 stuff?

Hey guys. Sorry I've been quiet for a while. I've mostly been doing some boring stuff. Some good news is that I finished the LZ2 ASM hack and finishing the new Level ASM. Today, I managed draw the castle object.

It took quite a long time because the tiles are so differing, but I think a lot of you will appreciate this over ever having to manually add all the tiles yourselves. The code for the big castle took 341 lines total.
The level ASM is almost done. I have pretty much all objects inserted. Only things left to do are add the generator objects, scroll stops, and a few tileset specific tiles that exist for castle levels. After that, I can finally get back to MushROMs-related work.

I have a question regarding the SMAS ROM and hacking

You know those tree platforms like in world 1-3 of SMB1? Is there some reason levels with them never use the snowy palette on the SNES even if they did in the corresponding NES or FDS level? It always kinda bugged me how 6-3 of SMB1 and many levels of SMB2J got, well, warmed up

I guess it was just the decision of the palettes. However, you can make custom palettes, so you can snow them up again if you'd like to.

Cool Maybe my first SMAS hack will be "SMB1 and SMB2J with proper snow levels" Would I also be able to get the orange pipes for the levels that had them? (I think 4-2 warp zone in SMB1 and 8-2, 8-3, and A-1 in SMB2J were them)

Seriously, I'm debating whether to convert my existing SMB1 and upcoming SMB3 hacks to SMAS, or just make a new set of levels Or both eventually

Well, I'm not sure how clearly I mentioned this, but the editor gives you custom palettes, ExGFX, and extended Map16 support. So yeah, you can do pretty much anything you want. Also, it gets rid of the vertical tile limits in levels and has a new format overall to allow for easier editing on the user's side.

Ok guys. I'm almost done with the ASM now. Palette, GFX, and Extended Map16 are done. So far, no bugs or errors from what I've seen, so it's looking good. Also, if some of you don't know, there are a lot of crap tiles in SMB1. They serve no purpose and are useless. So I've taken the liberty to delete.

Tiles with 0 are blank and can be used for whatever you want when you use MushROMs.
Note: I may take a few for some tiles that need to be created.

Hey, SWR, any news on this project of yours? I had a kick ass dream last night about someone releasing a bootleg SMB3 (SMAS) cart for SNES and then I remembered your project.

I'm kind of in a Van Gogh mood where I'm losing my mind trying to make a lot features perfect or close to. So to prevent mental break down or frustration, I've taken some time off from the editor to relax and work on some side projects I've saved for down time. A lot of what needs to be done for MushROMs can be considered the "not fun, but tedious" stage, so it's been a drag. I'm working on a few related items that will help the editor in general, but right now, not much has been done since my last post.
