I agree. The parents should be to blame fully. Can't they get it through their head that while they may think it "cute", the kid's got to live with the name @ for his whole life. Hopefully he'll be smart enough to get a name change at 18.

Or just a numerically-increased counter for each one; no need to overcomplicate somthing when you can have it as short as 1234567890.

On that note, 047903 was my school ID up until highschool, so it's burned in my mind rather badly.

But then how do you guarantee two people born at the same time don't get the same number? You'd have to do something like connect to a central server to get a unique ID, and the idea of every country participating in such a program seems far-fetched. It'd also require an Internet connection. With my method you'd only need a GPS receiver and a real-time clock.

Either way, once they start numbering everyone, people are going to freak out.

Oddly enough, I can't remember my school ID from high school, but I do have my college ID memorized. After looking at my high school ID card (which was crap, it was basically a laminated piece of paper, cut in the shape of a card), I found that my old ID was 50061.

Also, did you know that the kid could just go by "At", instead of "@"?
