Yes, shootan games!

Games that go pew pew, lasers, etc!

You fly around, you shoot dudes, you collect power-ups, maybe you collect point medals, maybe it's sideways, maybe it's top-down, maybe it's even isometric, one thing is always for sure..

It's fun as hell.

Now some people call these shoot-em-ups, and they would be correct. Some people call them SH'MUPs, and while this is also technically correct, this sounds silly.

So we will call them shooters.

So let's talk about our favorite shooters, eh? Whether the bullets are near invisible amongst the chaos(FUCK YOU, RAIZING), or there's just so many they cover the screen(Cave WHY), or there's just not that many of them, maybe there's none at all, maybe they're pixelated, maybe they're ugly-ass polygons or particle effects.

We all love the dance of bullets, don't we?

Additionally: Here's a thought.

Daily Shooter Challenge

Every day I will post my high score with a new shooter! I will be using screenshots, with my name in the game's leaderboards/at the time of death. Here's the catch: No continues! You get one shot at the game, one credit, you play it once, you don't continue, put the controller down, screenshot your high score, post it and move on!(Probably to play it some more.)

Pretty simple, right? I'll generally be choosing only games that can be emulated or freely downloaded.

Oh and I'll keep a running leaderboard in this post, too.

Raizing shooters are ball-bustingly hard for no reason. See: every shooter they've made, especially Battle Garegga. ESPECIALLY that game.

I have to admit that I most enjoy shooters that mix things up a bit with some kind of gimmick. Dangun Feveron's customizability, the little gimmicks in Raizing's shooters, Radiant Silvergun with its "destroy chains of color-coded enemies to make your weapons stronger", and Ikaruga's polarity changing shenanigans.

Really? Battle Garegga is MUCH easier than Armed Police Batrider, or the Mahou series(Dimahoo is one of those) I found.

Hell, it's even easier than Giga Wing in my opinion. :<

The only shooters I like are Tyrian and Raptor.

When starting a new game, on the difficulty select screen (do the following in order):

Type:
Capital G - Impossible Difficulty
Right Curly Bracer - Suicide Difficulty
L + O + R + D - Lord of Game Difficulty

Sorry for the thread necrophilia, but I like this idea and want to see it explored fully. D:

I tried both games discussed here -- Tyrian on Lord of Game, and Dimahoo -- and I have reactions for both and a score for one.

Firstly ... Dimahooooolyshit this game is rough. I've dicked around with Batrider from time to time, but I've never given Raizing a fair try before, and now I see what I've been missing. A lot of "oh jesus what the fuck is coming at me oh god oh god." the game roflstomped me.


Between this and Tyrian, I feel totally inadequate as a shooter-gamer.
Speaking of Tyrian... Lord of Game is best described as "ha ha, no. Go fuck yourself." What it lacks in bullets it makes up for in sheer impossifuckingbility. The little cannon-fodder ships in the start of the stage take shittons of damage before dying. I barely lasted two minutes before something came from the top of the screen and shot me with CAVE GUNS, or so it felt.

So, Garr... D: what game is next? (I propose some Dangun Feveron.)
