What operating system(s) do you use on computers that you use often? Emulators like DOSBox don't count, nor do OSes on computers that languish inside the closet/basement or whatever.

As for me, I use Windows 7 It came with my new laptop and I like it so far, although I've changed a few settings like the taskbar (I prefer its older style).

I use Windows 7. Previously, I used Vista (on this laptop and my previous one,) Windows XP on the family computer (the iNEXT, a silver and black box that had faulty USB ports and wirings, and currently the same (style) box but with working USB ports and On/standby light. All were named SILVER.) And Windows 98 SE on our first machine, an NEC.

I use Fedora Core 11 and Windows Server 2003 in VBox for class.

Vista. I think it's the better version of it.

I think the older computer and laptops are on XP.

Primarily Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard.

Secondarily, Windows 7 Professional x64.

In virtual machines I run Windows XP Home SP3 if needed.

A distant fourth would be any distribution of Linux. I am not an incredibly savvy Linux user and I don't really need to use it, though it does have a lot of potential as userfriendliness keeps increasing. But it's a ways off before it's grandparent-ready.

I have XP on almost all of the time, even though I installed Debian Linux beginning of summer vacation '08.

It's just confusing for me. And once I get confused, I get headaches. And once I get headaches, fuck it all, I can't concentrate and just gives up.

- Windows XP Professional SP3 here (and Windows 7 RC1 on a dual boot but I don't use it enough to count )
- Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 at work (but not really by choice )

I'm still planning to stay on XP until there's enough of a reason for me to upgrade to Windows 7 (if it's still the latest by then), like how I was about a year late for SP2 and SP3 ... I'd probably still be on SP2 if I didn't get this computer with SP3 already installed

Windows 7 x86 across the board. XP just feels awkward as hell to me now.

I did give the 64-bit version a try but WHOOPS CORRUPTED ITSELF
WHOOPS CORRUPTED ITSELF
WHOOPS CORRUPTED ITSELF
WHOOPS CORRUPTED ITSELF

I do screw around in Linux sometimes, though.

e: hey how the hell did I post that early

Windows XP x64.

Actually Windows Server 2003 in disguise.

It's so confusing, few drivers work and it's unstable.

But... uh.. 64-bits! Yay!

My home desktop PC runs Windows XP SP3. My miserable laptop runs OS X 10.5 with a virtual machine of an identical clone of my home PC. I have the virtual machine running 95% of the time that my laptop is in use.

If you didn't want a Mac you shouldn't have bought one.

Windows XP Home Edition. SP2, I think. I should probably upgrade to SP3 or something, but

Actually, I should probably upgrade to 7 or something, but my computer would choke. And $$$

I was compelled to get a Mac by the campus computer store because it was supposedly vital for my major. (Hint: the university has a contract with Apple.) I believed them because I didn't know any better.

Older ones I've had before:

- MacOS 7.0.1 (1992-1998)
- Windows 95 OSR2 (1997-2000)
- Windows 98 SE (2000-2001)
- Windows 2000 (2001-2002)
Then Windows XP since 2002 (SP1 in late 2002, SP2 in 2005, SP3 this year)

If you're counting virtual machines as well, I have Windows 3.11, 95, NT 4, 2000, XP, Vista and 7 RC1 (most of them shrunk to their bare bootable minimum, as you could tell), and MacOS 7.5.3 and 9.0.4

I'd personally have gone with a Windows laptop anyway.

If it was a college that practically fellates Apple (I've heard of one that makes you install TONS of crapware on a Windows computer, and you're practically mocked if you have one) I just wouldn't go, though. Not having a choice is awful.

Why don't you just install boot camp and take most of the space from OSX?

Anyways, I run Win XP SP3/Gentoo Linux on my work laptop, and Gentoo Linux on my web server, and Windows XP SP3 on my desktop that I am waiting to install Windows 7 on.
