Well, time to release something:



This is the hack / remake that i've been working on for a while. Right now i've finished the complete World 1, and W2-1 and 2-2. I plan to remake all the worlds (at least i'll try to). The remake aims to be harder than the original, for all of us that found original NSMB easy. I designed it to be a bit more difficult, but still enjoyable and fun.

All levels have 3 star coins (except world 2-2 i think), and 1-2 and the tower have their secret exits.

Levels:

World 1-1: A plain grassland level with a secret cloud secret area.
World 1-2: A mazy underground maze, with a secret exit. (Quick question: would you take out the mega mushroom that gives you 5 1ups?)
World 1-3: You only have 30 seconds to beat the level! RUN!
World 1-Tower: A moving block tower. with Hard to Get Star Coins.
World 1-4: A grassland level with a huge slide at the end.
World 1-5: Mushroom level.
World 1-A: A bonus level, with the Mario Clones. You have to take them both to the end, and if one dies, you die.
World 1-Castle: A castle full of spiked balls. Good luck.

World 2-1: A generic Pokey desert level with an underground part.
World 2-2: A Water Lakitu Level. (Note: this one is not the final version, it doesnt have star coins, and i think i'll redesign it a bit)

This is a NSMB Editor Patch. Make a copy of your rom, open it with NSMBe5 and in the Tools tab, click Patch Import and select the NMP file. Ignore the "different roms" warning, its a bug i still have to fix caused by having files with the same name in different folders (the staffroll enpgs).
The patch is done with the E version. It should work with the U version, but if it doesnt patch it in the E version. I'll release also a patch for the U rom. (i think the custom title screen wont show in the U version) Patch it on a clean E rom or it won't work. I'll try to fix it later. PLUS: THE CLONE LEVEL IS UNBEATABLE IF YOU PATCH IT IN THE U VERSION, IT AUTO-DIES

Yeah, the custom title screen is missing on the U ROM, but otherwise it works fine. The editor throws a NullReferenceException when replacing the last file but it's fine otherwise.

Does not come up with an error when patching an e rom but the title screen has the same problem

hmm. Its normal that the U rom doesnt patch well, the title screen files have different names... I'll upload a patch for the U rom as soon as i can. but I have no clue why the custom title screen is missing in the E patched rom... Hiccup, what language are you testing it in? i mean, in what language appear all the text in game in your ds or emulator?

English in no$gba emulator also the editor reports that its patched the title screen but before it starts patching it says that the rom and the patch could be different dirbaio you made your hack on a u rom didn't you?

Hmm. If i apply the patch to a CLEAN EUR ROM the title screen works, so it should work for you. It doesnt work on the U rom because the filenames are different. I dont know how to get around it... Maybe restrict patches to be applied only to the version they have been made on?...

I love this version! I love NSMB and it was really easy (I consider myself a bit of a NSMB pro), but this version is much better. I love the clone and the speed run level.
Just one problem - on level 4, the second slope-sided pit is insanely hard to get out of if you fall in, as you can't jump out, and to get out you need to jump on a goomba. The only problem is to get a goomba on screen, you need to slide all the way up the slope, and you can't stop, so you'll probably kill it.

Well, I normally just open up a level, get rid of everything but a few blocks (those which I consider 'key') and remake it from scratch, adding enemies as I go. I just use whichever enemies are in the preselected sprite sets. I could make a few levels for you if you want so you can see. It's kinda hard to explain.

How about a level with underwater tileset and a open background like mountains, etc? Like an ancient underwater part that through the years it has risen from underwater or the water level fell and leaved that part behind?

Hmm... Nice. Maybe it would look cool with the tileset a bit customized, like all plants and such brown, and the walls a bit more brown-ish... It's a good idea. i'll possibly make it! Thx

Ok.
I found that the clone level doesnt work if patched on the U version. You enter the level, and the spiked ball instantly kills the mario clone, instead of spawning it
So you enter the level and you instantly die. Not sure why, but the very same level works differently on both regions. I think that the clone stuff behaves differently on different versions.
