Usually it happens whenever I touch the part of the laptop with the screen, like to adjust the angle. Basically, the screen jumps around a lot and goes blank for a bit sometimes. It's usually normal if I don't touch the screen. It's not just the screen itself, anything in the upper half of the laptop seems to trigger it.

This only happened a few days ago. The laptop is around 2 years old, but it takes a lot of abuse from my taking it to and from school (the school requires everyone to have a computer).

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Should I buy a new laptop ASAP? I was kinda hoping this one would last until graduation, as I'm not exactly made of money

If it's triggered by touching your laptop... I'm willing to bet there's a damaged cable somewhere to the monitor.

How bad is this, anyway? At worst, you might need to repair the laptop or (unfortunately) grab a new one.

...How heavy is everything you run on this system, anyway? If you aren't a hardcore gamer, you might be able to get away with a netbook or something, should you need to grab a new computer.

It's not very heavy. Most of the games I play are ROMs from the 16-bit era or earlier And this thing already struggles with stuff like The Sims 3 anyway.

Other than that, I mostly use it for Internet and some text editing/office suite/programming stuff, although I also use it as my CD and DVD player.

I had a similar problem with a Dell Inspiron laptop just before I ditched it, although it was that the screen would be really dim, even at maximum brightness...

It was a used laptop anyway, and I didn't really know who the previous owner was or what s/he did to it

Well, my laptop screen pretty much died today

It only works if it's at a very low angle that's hard to work with, otherwise it flickers and is off most of the time, and otherwise doesn't show colours. I currently have my laptop hooked up to an external monitor in a very awkward setup, but this won't do for school and such.

I was really hoping the laptop would hold out until I graduate and move, but I guess not
