I kinda see her point, though... the Sony commercials aren't exactly the most politically correct at times. :\

Not saying they're sexist or paint women in a negative light. They're just... not very good. :\

I could care less if they're trying to market to guy gamers. Just stop making it seems that the females in the ads are mindless drones who only play child-like games and are used as eye candy.

Seeing that the purpose of that commercial was to promote the fact that the PS3 has family games, I think it did a fairly good job with it. Okay, I can understand why one might find this one to be in bad taste. Even if it isn't really the point of the commercial, the girlfriend's blatant stupidity certainly recalls a tired, old stereotype to get said point across.

So, yeah. Advertising to women games that weren't directly aimed at girls in the first place just isn't nearly as profitable as what they're doing now, so from a business standpoint, it makes perfect sense. It's not really fair, but that's how it works.

I think a while back, there was a Snickers commercial where two guys accidentally "kiss" while trying to get a Snickers, and then they kill themselves by drinking motor oil because they don't want to be perceived as gay or non-manly

...I think I remember the first half of that, but the motor oil suicide? In an ad? Don't think that would fly.
