Not a poll because I'd be sure to miss a lot of options

Anyway, what game genres do you prefer the most? You may also name any genres you don't like very much.

As for me:
- Platformers I pretty much grew up with the Mario series, and to a lesser extent Kirby.
- Adventure games, RPGs, and action adventures
- Strategy and simulation games. This was my parents' genre of choice, so I was exposed to a lot of them
- The occasional puzzler or old-school arcade game.

Genres I never got into are FPSes and fighting games

I don't think I can really split my favourite games up into "genres" because what I like varies so much I love the 2D Mario platformers but hate the Sonic games, for example. I don't like most RPGs except for the Paper Mario and Pokemon games.

Strategy and simulation games are fun sometimes.. but I'm horrible at them and I always end up just giving up. Yoot Tower, Theme Park World and Rollercoaster Tycoon for the win though

Not sure what else I can count really.. I like MMORPGs but I am extremely picky with them (Furcadia and Runescape are the only ones I like - Mabinogi is fun but the free paid item bonus system is seriously annoying)

RPG, FPS, RPG/FPS (see games like Mass Effect), dance/music (like DDR, ITG, Rock Band), old school, retro, some puzzle, fighting (like Tekken, Soul Cal)...okay, this is hard, I pretty much like everything, save for anything that will put me to sleep, ie CAUSAL GAMES! I think this would be easier to say what I hate: girlish games, most RTS games (Civ Rev is like the only one I really liked).

My all-time favourite genre of games is probably RPGs, with my very first RPG being Phantasy Star

Aside from that, I also like some RTS games, platformers, puzzle games (especially Tetris), and fighting games...

RPGs and the mix of platforming/exploration/action/2d sidescroller. (Aka, metroidvania)

Though, you should already know this if you have talked to be before!

Oh definitely shooters, like, Gradius and DoDonPachi to name a few. Hack and slash games are really fun, and RPGs..

It's surprisingly hard for me to pick one I like above all else.

-Music games.
Duh! Sometimes I like the music mostly (IIDX, DDR), but others I just enjoy the game (Pump It Up, DJ MAX, Pop'n Music, DJ Hero, Amplitude/Frequency). Without music games I would not have discovered all the music I listen to now.

-Strategy RPGs
Mostly NIS games. Disgaea 2 is practically my game of choice.

-Platformer/Hack'n'Slash
Ratchet & Clank is one of my favorites. Beat the crap out of everything and then do some exploring.

-Racing
I prefer games that are unrealistic or have a track editor. F-ZERO GX is a good racing game, as well as Re-Volt and Trackmania. I don't like racing sims though.

-FPS
Depends on the game. Borderlands, TF2, Portal, and such are good examples.

-Sandbox
This is mostly for games like GTA and such. Open ended and fun. Saints Row II is by far the best of the bunch so far.

I have a couple of favorites, but I'll list my favorite first

- FPS: Basically I don't know here. I am just some how good at them. One day I picked up Tribes for the PC (Windows 98) and while playing online. I was just instantlly great at it. I was in several clans, and was eventually up in the top 10 clans (=MoG=) (Mages of Galaxia). I had a K/D ratio of 8.99, and had several in game E-mails for challenges. Eventually I made my way into the Quake / Unreal crowd, but was behind the times.

Never heard of Tribes?

Yeah.

- RPG: I loved RPG's but it takes no skill. I just love grinding and spending time buffing my characters. Mind you I don't like grinding too much unless there is a reward mere hours of training (Maple Story).

- Fighting / Platforming: I love complicated fighting games as much as I love platforming games. Nuff said.

I like the standard action adventure games, like the various Mario games. Fun times to be had by all.
RPGS are also freaking awesome, but it depends on how fast or slow the action is and what I feel the game should have. I got Sonic: The Dark Brotherhood the other day, and I have only played it for five minutes, but I can't really see myself playing the game.
Platformers. 'Nuff said.
City builder/strategy: They are quite fun for a time, but eventually I can grow bored of the same thign again and again and not play for a while. I do go back to the same games, so that at least means these games have good replay value. Especially Caesar III. Oh God, that game is the shit.
Racing: Unrealistic types, like the Mario Kart series. And Moto Racer. That game is also the shit.
FPS: I don't particularly like them, but for some reason I'm good at them, so I can at the very least play them for a while without getting frustrated. PLus sometimes it's fun to watch death animations.

I love adventure games, such as Legend of Zelda and Mario games.
I also like RPGs, and possibly shumps.
That's pretty much what I like here.

Pretty much anything aside from stealth games, which I really can't get the hang of... plus I'd rather play FPS games with others. It'll need to be a really good game if I'm to play it in single-player.

I've come to realise that I can't stand jRPGs anymore. Unless they're something active like Paper Mario or something.

But I think my favourites basically come into here:
First/Third Person Shooters (Deus Ex, Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament etc. etc.)
Turn Based Strategy (Advance Wars)
Adventure Games (Aquaria, Metroid)
Modern Action RPGs (Stuff like Mass Effect)
Point and Click Adventures (Lucasarts stuff like Monkey Island)

Or some combination of the above.
Kirby Mario
Resident BEMANI fan.

I don't really have favorite game genres, but I have some that I prefer more then the others.

My preferred ones include:
- Platforming games.
Most of my favorite ones are of Kirby and some of the Mario platformers.

- Adventure games.
Stuff like the Metroid series and such.

- Music/Rhythm games.
Lately Beatmania IIDX, but I also play Pump It Up (when I can), DDR, DJ MAX, and some others.

- Puzzle games.
Mostly stuff like Tetris or Planet Puzzle League.

- Turn-based RPGs.
This largely consists of the Disgaea games.

There are probably a few more genres that I play, but they aren't really the types I play much.
