It may depend on the type of apartment I'm in a high-rise where residents aren't expected to do anything about grass/leaves/snow at all. In more of a townhouse setting, people may be expected to shovel the sidewalks to their own apartments, etc.

I'm not quite sure what type of apartment I lived in, but it was more of a commercial thing... homes on the second floor, businesses on the first.

Our landlord was dumb (but a nice guy) and refused to fix things until it was time to sell the apartment. New lights, better plumbing... everything was pretty much improved, and he even allowed pets (which we weren't allowed! go figure.)

But the place is infested with bugs and mice now, as far as I'm aware... I kinda miss the place, but at the same time I'm glad to be gone.

I see a ton of apartment balconies every year full of snow during the winter months.

People can't be bothered.

I have not once seen an apartment with a balcony myself. Maybe they're just not that big around Philadelphia, or I'm just looking in the wrong places.

You really can't blame people for not bothering with the balconies in winter, though. Especially depending on where the balconies are... you might end up pushing snow onto an unsuspecting person, if I'm picturing things right.

They're not very popular around here either, at least where I live (maybe in other parts of my area, though)

The only thing I really have to do with snow is to brush it off around my car...

Apartments with balconies seem common around here. In fact, I've lived in 2 such apartments

Go to downtown Montreal and you'll see tons of apartment buildings with balconies.

And really... do you want to have someone way up there dump snow onto the sidewalk from 15 floors up?

I could only imagine the reaction if that had actually happened. Of course, with my weird luck, it'd probably be me who would be the one to get hit by the snow.

...Probably something like getting splashed by a fast-moving car running over a puddle, which I'm all too familiar with. Some people even intentionally do it, too.

I've read that dropping a coin from, say, the Empire State Building could, in theory, actually kill someone below

The puddle splash is annoying as well. As is any type of incessant horn-honking that has nothing to do with alerting drivers to, say, a light turning green.

I've got no doubts about this, if it hit someone just right. I mean, something falling from that far... just picks up a bit too much speed on the way down.

I don't think anything from a few floors up would hurt severely, though.

I think they actually found this to be true on Mythbusters. The speed and excelleration, along with gravity, make it as fast as a bullet almost.

Balconied apartments are freaking everywhere in the southwest suburbs. I'm even surprised people live in nonbalconied apartments!

The closest thing we had to a balcony in our apartment... was a back door, and stairs leading down to the parking lot in the back. The apartment next to ours had a true balcony, though, now that I think about it...

The house I'm renting next year has a deck on the second floor. From memory, it's about...10x8? maybe?

Our balcony looks over the little man-made lake that has water coming out of it. It is pretty at night.

I really should use my balcony more.

I didn't usually go out on mine when I had them. One just faced a parking lot, and the other...also faced a parking lot. And my windows in this apartment face one, too.

For one of the apartments, getting a view of the river cost about $50 more per month.

I don't think I've ever seen any apartments with balconies anywhere near here.

Then again, apartments are pretty rare around here.

Getting my DSL actually activated today really surprised me, considering it's a holiday. Then again, I don't think many places give off for Veterans' day anyway... I know classes still went on today.
