Too bad so many big name games won't work because of special chips.

Yeah, that's the only downside. I'd love to be able to get a version of this with SA-1 support instead of DSP.

E: Though, for something like that it looks like I'd have to put together a custom cart. Damn.

Actually, the compatability list isn't so bad. Sure, there are a few disappointments, but at least Super Castlevania IV and the DKC series will work, as well as Super Metroid.
I'm stoked; I gotta get this.

I'm thinking about buying one of these eventually, since Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI work on it

Also, I'd really like to play the FF4 and FF5 fan-translations on real hardware, and see how they play on an actual SNES...

I saw the NES one on that site a few months ago although I guess that this SNES one is something new. I might have ctually considered getting one although with the help of my homebrew enabled Wii and a classic controller I pretty much get the same experience that I would if I was games on a real SNES.

It would still be neat to have one though

I do like what I see here.

But shit... $150 or so for one? Seems a little bit too expensive to be worth it when I have a PS3. :/

e: 150ish considering I don't have a CF card and would like the DSP

Yeah, price is a bit steep for what it is. Not saying the hardware isn't worth that much; it probably is, but considering emulators run on pretty much every modern console and handheld as well as any computer within the past 10 years, I don't see it selling particularly well other than to people with a strong interest and a good bit of extra cash.

Still, good idea and nice that it's available as an option, especially considering the mess of proprietary software and ROM formats for all those old copiers that you'd be lucky to get running on any modern PC.

DSP1 chip is only useful if you want to play Pilotwings or SMK since those appear to be the only two games of note that require it.

Some of those listings on the incompatibility list are strange... Dungeon Master uses DSP2? And NO OTHER GAME uses DSP2?!?

I thought SMW2 needed a chip for some parts due to rotation. :/

Yeah, it uses the Super FX chip which isn't supported on that.

Yeah...lack of Super FX and the ultimate price are really turning me off a good deal from this. Sexy though...few years ago I'd have probably killed for anything close to this. Good thing to keep in mind, anyway.

Apparently there might be a problem with some system compatibility with the PowerPak, since orders have been "temporarily" suspended.

Pretty awesome, but for that price, it'd need a USB port to be worth it, so I could just upload directly into its memory and run. That'd be great for homebrewing.
Surely there's a way the expansion chips can be put onto some sort of swappable add-in cartridge? Might need an FPGA, but I bet it could be done. Getting the chips might be the hard part. (Where do they get the DSPs? )

I was planning to build exactly this if I ever learned enough about hardware to make it work. I could easily build a simple 128K cart, but I don't have a flash programmer to put anything on it with. (Besides, what the hell am I going to put in 128K? Not even Super Mario World.)

I already know enough about hardware to make something like this for the Nintendo 64, let alone SNES.

I just lack motivation.
