Sounds good, right? Wrong. Turns out that the drivers for the USB slots aren't working anymore. (Related to usbd.sys and usbhub.sys if I remember right.) Here's the worst part: that's where my internet came in from. Without it, not only will I be unable to check in on you, but my mom will get pissed I'm sure.
So if someone could help me out here...? Like in the next few minutes or so?

That's... awkward. I'd suggest trying a single reinstall beforehand to see if it was just one of those awkward random cases.
Other than that... are you sure which model your computer is? Others might have had a similar problem as yours, but I can't really tell without more information. :|
I talked to Treeki over IRC last night to try to remedy the problem...unfortunately I ended up deleting my wireless USB's driver after he left thinking that it came from the USB anyways. (dumb)
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE...I found out why moving the modem to the computer didn't work before, turns out my dad put the signal-splitting phone box or whatever the thing is into the phone incorrectly, connecting it to the phone and having its phone line feed through the wall, thus causing the DSL line to feed into the phone itself. I remedied this, and now (except for one minor detail that I might be able to fix later, if I want to bother) internet is back albeit in a different method. (If it went off after I left the house though...)
This doesn't solve my USB problem however; And I would rather not reinstall, waiting four hours for it to do that was bad enough as it was. (checks Google) A quick search shows that I should get new USB drivers, according to this page's first answer. Sounds like an idea, I'll try that when I get home.
A follow-up to my USB problem: it wasn't Windows that was doing something wrong, it was a program called LibUsb, which I used to allow the functioning of a PS3 controller with my computer. Uninstalling that fixed everything on its end.
So everything's alright now. Can't use the PS3 controller anymore, but that's a minor loss compared to not being able to use any of the USB spots at all. (Too bad that was the root of all problems right there.)
Yeah libusb tends to install incorrectly on windows 7, though it does work on the x86 version (i used to use it on my desktop for my ps3 controller, lol) just give it a few tries to install, if the usb ports go out, uninstall/reinstall until it works. However, I actually recommend you get motioninjoy ps3 drivers, they are fairly new and work on x86 and x64 versions of windows and you don't need libusb. I still use my ps3 controller as my controller on console emulators and it works beautifully. Have fun!
