I've been busy studying from Levels 7 and 6 (10 is the easiest while 1 is the hardest) of Kanji Kentei books. When I was coming back from Japan, I tried a practice test of 105 questions on my DS for Level 7. I passed -- I was so happy, you have to be able to read and write 640 characters. I struggled with that for months. On level 6, you need to know 825.

Does Kanji Kentei teach words or just kanji? Frankly, I don't find it very helpful to study kanji on their own. Knowing what "見" means really wouldn't help you very much if you can't tell the difference between 見る, 見せる, or 見つける.

The software I'm using just reinforces what you already know -- although with each new version being released, they add new features. The books introduce new vocabulary with each kanji, but doesn't teach the difference between the different forms.

I'm not really a big poster either, but lately I've wanted to make a few posts here and there.

On a side note, I wore my jacket tonight for the first time since March -- the temperature will probably go down to the high 30s tonight, but get up in the 60s later in the week. Winter is coming, it is just a matter of time before we get our first snow storm.

It'll be a stretch for us to do so... we'll be above seasonal the next few days but it'll be chilly the following week. Around 4-5C each day.

I'd like to make it to December but you're always rolling the dice here. One year we didn't make it out of October without 10cm of snow on the ground. :\

I'd rather it didn't snow until 2010, at least.

With the way this year's been, any snow will probably be ridiculously deep and a massive effort to shovel.

It's been warmer than expected here lately, warm enough that I haven't needed a jacket on some days (although I'm used to cold and usually don't need a jacket unless it's under 50°F or 10°C).

At least it's not like a few years ago, when IIRC it was like summer weather until almost Halloween

Last I checked, it was about 54 here right now.

It's definitely not cold enough for snow, fortunately... but still a bit cool. Feels nice to sit outside in for a few minutes.
