ICQ was popular at my school when I was in Grade 10-11. Everyone had ICQ. I had AIM.

As a result, I never talked with anyone online because I was "different" in that regard. XD

Most people at my school had MSN instead of AIM I remember trying to collect AIM names because of a project I wouldn't finish by the last day of school, and I got like 2 or 3 names in a whole class.

I remember good ol' ICQ 98a...small, unobtrusive, easy to use, and fairly stable. Every version after that was a hideously bloated bag of crap. It wasn't long after ads started appearing that I stopped using it altogether.

I think I downloaded ICQ at one point years ago. Dunno if I ever used it more than once though.
I stuck with MSN, until people started to drift away from that and into texting and Facebook. Now it's just Facebook, Steam, or Skype for me.

Hm. That fully answers my question, then. Like many things, it was good, then corporate greed blew it up. Thus everyone left it for greener pastures.

I still remember my ICQ # but not the password.

I'm in the same boat as Tarale. msn here is extremely popular. Every one here has an hotmail account and msn.

I also use Google Talk/chat

Never used it at all. I use Skype and IRC to get in touch with most people I need to. There's still a couple that refuse to use anything but aim, so I have to log on there sometimes. Oh, and I use hotmail for email.
