So, who do you think was the best starter in Pokémon Red/Blue?

I preferred Squirtle myself, since the Water-type had the fewest weaknesses out of all the R/B starters, and Blastoise really can take hits because of its high Defense and Special Defense

Blastoise: 2 weaknesses: Grass and Electric... but Grass wasn't much of a threat if you gave it Ice Beam
Charizard: 3 weaknesses: Water, Electric, and Rock... the only generation I starter with a 4x weakness
Venusaur: 4 weaknesses: Fire, Flying, Ice and Psychic... that second type really made it fairly weak, plus there were a lot of powerful Fire-type moves in the game... also, many Water types can also get Ice-type moves anyway, so...

My Blastoise on my most recent playthrough of Pokémon Blue had the moves Surf, Ice Beam, Body Slam, and Hydro Pump by the time I reached the Elite Four

I also used Fearow until I caught Zapdos, and used it for my electric type (I had a Pikachu/Raichu earlier in the game, but it fell into disuse as well...)

I only used Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff for Flash and to catch a Gastly by using Sing (which I actually caught at full health with a Great Ball ), which I evolved into Gengar using the emulator TGB-Dual

I also had an Alakazam on my team, which really served me throughout the game... that is, until I caught Mewtwo

My team for the Elite Four on my most recent playthrough of Blue was: Blastoise, Alakazam, Gengar, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres

I used to play competitively, so, I never used any of them. For plowing through the game, Venusaur for his insane Razor Leaf.
Still, Venusaur dies to a STAB Psychic from just about any of the standards in competitive, Charizard eats Rock Slides like a bitch, and Blastoise can't kill much of anything fast enough to warrant me using it over a better Water type, like Slowbro, Starmie, or Lapras. My team usually was a mixed bag of awesome competitive Pokemon, namely Starmie, Rhydon, Exeggutor, Alakazam, Chansey, Persian, and maybe some others I'd rotate in and out.

Bulbasuar is by far the best one out of the starters if you want to beat the game fast.

However... I picked charmander as I like that one more!
Sure you have to grind some at the start to use it but in end game it's just so much fun to simply pwn everything!

Every time I play Blue or Leaf Green from the beginning I allways choose Bulbasaur apparently he is the experts choice Because he levels up faster than the other two

I myself has always been prone to choosing Squirtle, as I was around 4 at the time and was in love with the anime for it. Of course, Squirtles always had flippin' sweet sunglasses so why wouldn't I choose them.

I believe my team was Blastoise, Jolteon, Dragonite, Alakazam, Golem, and Gengar though I believe the later three were their un-evolved forms for the longest times.

I also might know Blaistoise's moveset.

Surf
Ice Beam
Skull Bash
Hydro Pump

I must admit though, Alakazam and Gengar are pretty flippin' sweet on a team.

*goes to find his old Blue cartridge*
