Mwahahahaha.

Of course, I don't think that would work since I'm sure everyone's tried to use that excuse at some point.

There's always the excuse that it's against your religion

Apparently, that can get people out of drunk driving charges in Michigan

More like "I drank alcohol at such-and-such religious event, so I can drive drunk"

I had jury duty last summer. I was called with about 25 other people at one point into a courtroom, but I thankfully wasn't chosen from that group to sit on the jury.

Bring a laptop - it's a really long and boring day otherwise.

Last I checked, you're supposed to take a sip of wine from the chalice. You don't chug the contents of it.

I'm not religious, so I wouldn't know

I think even tiny amounts of alcohol can make someone fail a Breathalyzer test, etc.

My mother told me some time ago that despite not being registered to vote, you can still have jury duty if you're a legal citizen of the country. Hell if I know if she's right or wrong about that, though.

I haven't been called for jury duty. However, I'm not a registered voter, I'm merely 21, and nothing terrible really goes on out here anyway.

I got picked for jury duty back up in Cleveland (well, Lorain County, close enough), but at the time I was in Columbus at college. That was a good enough excuse for them.

I think my mom was on a jury as well.

IIRC, she was one of the only people picked who wasn't related to either person onvolved in the case (she lives in the country with large inbred families), so she had to serve on the jury.

Me neither, in fact, I would love to have to do jury duty, I find it pretty cool. But that's just me...

I got called for jury duty once... when I was 17. I never bothered to fill out my information and send it back, because I couldn't legally go anyway, and I was about to leave to go back to NY. heh. I asked my mom what I should do, and she said that if they called and wondered what was up, she'd have at 'em. Or something like that. *snort*

Well yay. In the state of Ohio, your employer IS NOT required to reimburse you at all for Jury Duty, and my job flat out told me that I wouldn't be reimbursed.

Good news is that this is also enough to get me out of jury duty entirely. All I have to do is have my employer send in a paper stating that they will not be paying me and I can't afford to lose two weeks pay, and I'm out.

It only took me this long to get everything sorted out because I work during the exact hours that the Jury Commission is open (figures). Today is my only day off that is on a week day, so I was finally able to give them a call.

Now I have to start the process of actually getting my employer to write that letter which something tells me is going to be easier said than done . The place I work at has no common sense. They couldn't even provide me with accurate information when I needed it to apply for a loan without months of hassle and confusion, and even then I think they just ended up bypassing the whole thing.

Oh well, at least it will all work out in the end.

Jury Duty is fine, unless it interferes in something important.

That said, as my Mom said, you're unlikely to get it when you DO have free time, only to then get it over and over again when you don't.

I wish one could schedule getting Jury Duty to help earn credits for it during those empty times, so as to not interfere in the busy ones.
