So, today is the official release of Windows 7 unto the world.

Are you going to buy [the RTM]? Wait a couple of months? Stick to whatever OS you're running?

Since I've been running Windows 7 Pro x64 RTM ever since the middle of August I can't really get the new OS, since I already have it. :p

Since Vista 64 has been just short of a nightmare for me in terms of general stability, I took advantage of the student discount and my PC is now running Windows 7 Pro x64. (Like ... JUST now, the installation just completed.) I had some problems with the default installation method and had to convert the thing from an upgrade pack into a bootable full install ISO that I burned to disc but it's working fine now. (Yes, I am one of those people that actually purchases software.)

I've been using the release candidate for quite some time and it was the first Windows OS that actually impressed me. However my MacBook Pro is still my main machine despite being three years old ... simply because I still like OS X more. Windows kicks its ass in the gaming arena though. :|

I've been using the RTM for a week and a bit. Very nice, I'm loving it. I think it was a pain to install, but only because we transferred everything over from Vista too. (Which is an extremely nice feature, btw.)

I don't have much disposable income right now, so I'll stay with Vista. Maybe next year I'll buy a new computer with Windows 7

Ooh, my brother will be glad to hear that. He gets the update free because of when he got his laptop.

I'll remain using Windows XP x64. I've just barely got a stable driver set, upgrading would just force me to start all over again.

I guess it's time for me to trash the RC and install the real thing, then. Meh, I hate reinstalling

I hate installing OSes too.

I probably wouldn't get much use out of it now because my computer is extremely bad, but I'm probably going to get a new computer sometime before the year ends. That's probably when I'll start using 7.

Sticking with Windows XP x86 for now. No estimate on when I'll switch to a modern OS.

I see no advantages but multiple disadvantages in Windows 7, so I'll take my time.

I don't forsee Windows 7 in my future. XP is, for me, the best operating system to own.

I only upgraded to 7 x86 because XP was starting to flail a bit. Stupid fucking Conexant drivers.

7 started off godawful for me... but ONE DRIVER REPLACEMENT and it's running just like XP was. I'm honestly surprised, and might continue to run ut.

Shiny new layout!
----------------------------------------------------

I get Enterprise and Professional (both flavors) from my school for free.

Just need to find a time to shove it on my laptop and desktop at this point (Each one getting a x86 and x64 flavor respectively).

To say the least, I've been using it since beta and been loving it. Much faster than my old XP machine used to be. Same hardware.

I'm tempted... but since I'm on XP that would mean a total re-install. That's time consuming. :\

I'll stick with XP indefinitely as I'm not sure how this system would handle an upgrade. My next computer will def. have Se7en.

Eh, I should download the Windows 7 system test or whatever the hell Microsoft calls it just to see. (Not the RC, but the thing that gives you a score and... you know, the thing that likely told people Vista will be fantastic on their PC's. )

Well... how is your processor, RAM, and video card? I have a 2.6ghz Celeron, 2GB of RAM, and a GeForce 8400GS... none of which are high-end by any means, but 7's running pretty smoothly on here.

It's probably better than you'd expect. Just don't overwrite XP just yet, unless you were in my situation and you got somewhat wrecked by bad drivers.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I just bought 7 Ultimate a couple hours ago. I'm currently downloading the x64 ISO and will install it just as soon as it's done. I already have my disk split in to 2 for it (from a previous install of mac os x that never worked).

I'll certainly have to get drivers for it beforehand. Something about my card makes it notoriously unsupported by default. The 7 RC didn't have it and it's pretty much the ONLY atheros 5000 series chip that's not (wasn't?) supported in mac os. :p

I've had Windows 7 Pro for at least a month now. It's running on my laptop along with Windows XP, because I haven't had to time to setup my workspace properly yet.

Got it for free as a Computer Engineering student.

I've been using it since the beta, and installed the final version several weeks ago. (Yay for MSDNAA!) I'm very impressed - I skipped Vista altogether (well, except when that was in Release Candidate status).

Still using the RC on my laptop though... I'll get around to upgrading it eventually.
