| There's a few candidates. Time's Scar, the opening theme to Chrono Cross, is a strong contender.
There's also Moonsong, the bgm for the Outer Wall in Cave Story. I'm pretty sure nothing else really comes close to those two? I'm probably gonna remember something as soon as I post this, though =/ |

Ghaleon's Theme - Lunar : Silver Star Story
One of my favorite games which had a great score of music as well as this great track. Builds the suspense, then hits the climax. I also thought Final Fantasy VIII Had a great soundtrack as well. ____________________  |

| Way too many to post. Many of those have been mentioned.
I add these, trying to comment a little (and probably fail at that) to each one: - Mega Man III, "Wily Stage 3&4". Actually sounds kinda sad and depressing, but as I connect that track to the game (obviously), it fits perfectly to the colours and the industrialized theme, especially found in those Wily stages - Vagrant Story, "Efreet/Ifrit". The entire soundtrack is just an epic bombast of most fine orchestral music. But that track my not be too special, but although I hated the genie type boss enemies a lot (first playthrough only), the music really kicked ass - Final Fantasy IV, "The Dreadful Fight", really kicking the adrenaline to the top. Damn catchy, it sounds kinda "old" from the orchestra, but maybe just because of that I appreciate this - Final Fantasy VI, "Dancing Mad". Love it or hate it. But these sacral and epic tracks rock, especially reaching the climax when fighting Tier 3 in the game. It actually beats the Black Mages' version, as it has this nice echo effect found here, before the final encounter with Go... err Kefka begins - Super Metroid, "Brinstar 2/Lower Brinstar". Silent, ambient, minimalistic and really fitting. Usually you should last that track long enough - so don't get that Spazer by wall-, bomb-jumping and/or Hi-Jump Boots too early - to make that track at least cycle until the paino kicks in. That's the best part of it 
- Kirby Super Star, "Time to learn". This one really sounds advanced in terms of quality, it actually feels "heavy" in terms of bass, what could be considered rare in 16bit music. The melody is so wonderful and kinda burns into the ears. I dunno, if it even does, when you don't knew the game before I miss about 237835 other tracks, but as we know - like the majority on this board - there is endless numbers of good tracks to fill lots and lots of pages in one thread. ____________________  |
