Now I'm reminded I need a printer as well. :|

I have to print a lot of code for my C++ class, so I have something to look over for the midterm. Stupidly, we can't use the computers... couldn't he just disable the network for them instead? (People were searching online for answers.)

My creative writing teacher makes us print so much crap

I had a CS teacher who let us use the computer during tests. Easiest tests ever

I hate using printers. Most of the time, I never have to use them, but some teachers, like my US History teacher, forces us to write some essays on the computer and print them out, like the essay I have to do.

Since I don't use printers much, most of the time, the ink cartridges would dry up and no longer work. This wastes money to replace those cartridges.

What Kirby Mario said.

I usually view my documents on the computer and hand things in electronically when I can, so my printers collect dust and such

At least my teacher was nice enough to allow the student to send her the essays through e-mail. I might do that, but there's no guarantee that I'll get the same grade as everyone else.

At least it wasn't like my old English teacher. I had to print every essay out, and I couldn't afford getting more ink. It would've been worse if I didn't have a print card I could use for the school printers.

I usually try to conserve ink, and that is what usually happens to my cartridges.

I felt so bad last week when my video professor made the whole class print out 30-40 pages of powerpoint slides, all of which used dark grey backgrounds and colors just to use for one day. What a waste of paper and ink.

I thought I was the only one who felt bad over stupid things like this. Seeing stuff which is just blatant wasting makes me cringe.

We have a printer but I never use it since everything is on my computer and I don't need it elsewhere.

The worst part is, I think we'll have to print even more at the end of the semester.

I'm actually using the backside of the most wasted sheets (only one small slide at the top with only the "credits") as drawing paper. I'll probably do the same to the rest of the paper after they've served their purpose. Why waste?

That's a pretty cool idea. I'd totally do that if I had the same problem.

... I just remembered that I woke up to the sound of my mom's printer having massive paper jams and wasting paper. Makes this topic pretty ironic now that I think of it..

I tend to donate a lot of the stuff I have to print out to the tutoring centre to use as scrap paper

Last semester, I had a class where we had to print hundreds of pages. At least we didn't have to buy a textbook though.

What happens if you don't have a printer? Or do they let you use one they have there?

The school has printers, and they don't seem to mind people printing like 50 pages at once

My university has several computer labs, all with printers, so not owning a printer isn't a valid excuse for us. I imagine many universities have the same thing.

Edit: Oop, too slow.

You know what else I hate about printers? Especially HP ones.

The drivers.

Slows down everything, full of useless crap, takes ages to install, causes problems, etc.

Yeah, my USB HP all-in-one takes forever to warm up, even if I just need to scan one thing.

I love my new printer. Doesn't take long to load or anything like that.

We've had three HP printers, although the most recent one is an all-in-one. I actually found the manual for the first one a while ago; it was a pretty interesting read. It's so old (A Deskjet 710C I think - If not, it's most likely 720C or 730C) that the manual talked mostly about Windows 95/98 and even DOS at points. The drivers came on several floppy disks.

I don't think the new ones even came with a manual. Just a "quick start guide" and several CDs.

Anyway, I'm leaving to go to town now. Have fun posting and trying to catch up guys.

One of my old schools had a printer like that. It was a colour laser printer though, and those seem to be the slowest B&W lasers are a lot faster, in my experience. Inkjets are pretty slow too, but it's usually the actual printing and not "warming up"

I have Vista, so I tend to be at a driver disadvantage in general

How come? Vista has been out for almost 3 years, I was pretty sure the driver problem didn't really exist any more. (Especially now since Vista drivers are compatible with Win7).

When I tried Vista I had no driver problems, surprisingly enough - Not even with my old extremely finicky ADSL modem. I had heard reports of that particular model not working on Vista at all, and the drivers were a total pain.
