Good lord, this is the sort of thing you see in cartoons and never think that it will actually happen, I hope that kid is alright!

I'm watching this right now. MY dad told me about it as soon as I walked in the door. This is nuts!

Anyone notice that balloon boy's real first name is Falcon?

Yeah, when I first heard them saying falcon all the time, I thought that that was what they named the balloon. Then I realized it was the kid's name and I facepalmed.

Oh lol

Everyone at work was so fixated on this yesterday because it was "such a tragedy" and continued to ask why the hell a 6 year old had access to this or why the balloon wasn't grounded.

Just tell them "everything is fine, nothing is ruined, go back to your little worthless lives"

Gets them every time. I think. I never really told anyone that before, so I wouldn't know of its effectiveness.

The problem is that it is still being covered on the news despite this good ending.

What the hell?

A lot of people are suspecting it was a publicity stunt now. I wouldn't doubt it. There's no way in hell that kid could have been in that balloon, and they know it. Helium balloon? And the way it's structured? How could it possibly sustain even fifty pounds of weight? This is all seriously fishy.

Just think, at least they didn't name him @. :|

At least Falcon is a decent name, albeit a bit unusual.

I'm willing to go by the judicial system here, and think of them as completely innocent. It's completely possible for a family to lose track of a kid for several minutes, and that just so happened to be the several minutes before the balloon took off.

I don't know. I think I just want some shred of humanity left.

Well here's the thing, if a balloon that size with nothing but helium as propulsion is INCAPABLE of lifting the weight of a small child, and the dad is the INVENTOR of that said aircraft, then wouldn't he be the first one to know that small fact? Indeed, there is no way that guy could have INVENTED this thing without knowing that.

So then, if he obviously knew that it was impossible for the balloon to take off while supporting the weight of a kid, then why didn't he fucking tell that to the police?! I'm thinking publicity stunt too. Either that, or the "inventor" is HORRIBLY bad at basic physics. This story never seemed like it made much sense from the beginning.

This is insane. I bet this kid is going to be famous in a few years for this. Whoever it was, I guess it succeeded at being a hoax and getting pretty much everywhere.

He'd better not be. I want this family's dreams of fame to be completely shattered for pulling off such a bone-headed stunt.

(Wishful thinking, I know...they're gonna have their own Fox TV series before you know it. )

To be honest this would've been a complete nonissue if Your Lovely 24-Hour "News" Networks hadn't been completely fixated on every single aspect of the story.
