I actually never saw many HP monitors.

I guess their monitors might be fine... I don't trust their computers worth a damn, though. I've seen too many problems with HP computers.

My home PC is 1024 x 768, so I maximize everything.

My laptop is 1440x900, but I still maximize everything. Bigger windows = more canvas space to work with and less scrolling for web pages.

Oh, but I never maximize MSN windows.

I'll never maximize anything if it's not to my benefit. That's all.

A bit more on topic, I've heard of netbook with 800x480 screens... the thought of that is honestly scary.

Mine is an Asus Eee PC 1000H. It's nice. The keyboard could be better, but I'm getting used to it.

I'm pretty sure the only (Or mostly the only) netbooks with 800x480 are the original 7xx Eee PCs. I wouldn't ever get one - 800x480 is far too small.

My old laptop was a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 from 2003, so maybe it might have been Synaptic.. not sure, I can't check. I do know it didn't have scrolling or any fancy features though - just moving and tap to click.

I have an HP monitor right now. It's an HP w2007v (20 inches, widescreen, 1680x1050) and it works great. Setting the colour mode to sRGB in the onscreen menus (which I discovered a while ago) made it look even better.

I have 1440x900, and I maximize Firefox, Windows Explorer, and that's about it.
Anything else doesn't need it. Well, except for games.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I almost never maximize stuff. I'm way too attention deficit not to keep a program open, with IRC, pidgin and web browser visible so I can switch to all of them... though usually other window is a video or some crap... I can't focus on things like that.

EDIT: Resolution is 1920x1080.

I maximize things that benefit from all the space, namely Photoshop, Illustrator, or Logic. Sometimes I'll maximize a browser window to make resizable page elements larger, like Flash animations or something, but rarely. 1920x1080.

It does bother me too though when things are maximized that don't need to be. It's not as annoying as seeing pixelated low-resolution art scaled up on printed signs at places like on college campuses, or as annoying as someone using a desktop background that is a much lower resolution than their screen.

... but nothing is worse than a "Friendly Reminder" posted in the break room at work, typed up in Comic Sans, without running a spell check, that uses clip art, WordArt, and has lots of unused white space under the text. If you want to drive a design major insane, ... that's how you'd do it.

WordArt should be illegal. *shudder*

Yeah, I was never too fond of WordArt myself If I had to use it, I'd at least try to change the font. I hate Impact

I can't stand seeing more than one window open. My need for organization rapes me if there's mutliple windows on screen. I always keep everything maximized for that reason.
