Chicago and Charcoal remind me of my elementary/middle school Macs. Good times.

I've been thinking of getting an OS 9 visual style for XP or something... too bad I won't be using it much longer.

Same here. I don't recall ever having specific assignments in computer lab; we spent most of our time goofing around with Kid Pix and trying to change settings in the Control Panel without the teacher noticing.

I used to hate Verdana for some reason, and always made a point of using Arial in my website and forum posts instead. That suddenly changed several years ago, not sure why...

I don't have as good memories of the school Macs in general I remember thinking it was annoying having to do stuff "the Mac way" like dragging to the menu item when I was used to Windows. I do have some good memories though Like playing Mario Teaches Typing and that Number Munchers or whatever. And when the computer lab technician or whoever realized that I could program at age 8 and taught me some more BASIC programming

It's probably because Acmlm's used the Arial font way until the board2 incarnation... I remember it bothering me for a while then just being thrown off by Verdana. Now I'd feel awkward seeing it in Arial.

I remember seeing the first iMacs ( ). I thought that was the most amazing design ever.

That computer person would also show me a program called HyperStudio, which was basically a HyperCard ripoff I don't think we ever found a Windows version for me to use at home Apparently, HyperCard-type stuff was only in the Apple world, pretty much.

For my layout, I use Candara. I like it a lot and have been using it since my Sakaki layout when i was looking for a slightly manga-esque font. The only part that's iffy about it is how the numbers are dropped low. 1234567890. See? Oh well, it's not a big deal.

No, I don't see, because I (like most others, I'd imagine) don't have that font.

Hmm...I have it, but I don't know where it came from.

It's ©2005 Microsoft, so maybe it came packaged with some update...?

MacOS 9's version of Chicago changed that, but I liked the old Chicago (and Geneva) more

I use XP and have smoothing turned off because I like to see the pixels.

I used to use PM Dialog for my layout, but I realized nobody here had it anyway and the letters were rather large, so I just switched to Arial.

I Arial

Candara and the other new fonts are pretty cool. I use Consolas for all my monospace text editing and Calibri for other things, and Cambria if I need a serif font. They're a great improvement over the old fonts IMO - the old ones are still good, but having something new and fresh is still nice.

I like Calibri a lot, use it for pretty much everything. As for ClearType, apparently it's Vista/7 default, so yes.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I'm in linux and I use "slight" hinting according to the Xfce appearance panel. It makes fonts a bit bolder and I tend to have fonts a little larger, because I can't see very well.

Subpixel antialiasing doesn't look quite right on this monitor usually because of the large pixel size and this issue with my video card where in linux it'll output YCrCb 4:2:2 through the HDMI connection, with no way to change it. :/

Answer would be no, I guess.

Has anyone figured out a safe way to embed fonts in webpages yet? I seem to recall IE supporting it a while back, but of course it turned out to be a security risk.

It's stupid that we still have to limit ourselves to fonts we know everyone is going to have (or similarly-styled ones)...

Reminds me of a different font I picked up on from Graal. (Tempus Sans ITC)

The numbers thing is also like that in Georgia (0123456789) and I have no idea. It just looks funny.

So... I never knew about this cleartype thing before.

So I just tested it out with Tuner and I like it. Small difference but nice. Weird that I missed it all these years, I used to love tinkering with options and such. :/
