On my desktop, games are usually the only things that get full-screen'd. I find myself using winkey+right and winkey+left a lot; it's handy for quickly making windows (especially text editors) tall but only half the screen width. (I also often keep terminals at the default width of 80 characters; I'm not really sure why. )

I maximize everything on my laptop, though, since it's only 1024x600.

I use alt-tab anyway.

Though I've become very efficient with the touchpad... used to them. When I'm playing a game though, I have a USB mouse with me.

I can't stand touchpads Especially with the tap-to-click feature, as typing movements and such tend to result in accidental clicks. I use a real mouse

I actually always use tap-to-click. It doesn't bug me that much, I never end up with accidental clicks, and the buttons on my laptop are pretty hard to press.

My netbook has a multitouch touchpad (Elan SmartPad is the type I think) which is pretty cool. My favourite part is being able to use pinching gestures like on the iPhone to maximise/minimise windows. Scrolling is annoying (I have to place two fingers on the pad and move them). It used to be not very sensitive, but I updated the drivers and now it's REALLY sensitive - even with the speed set to minimum. Overall it's useful, it's just a pain compared to a normal mouse.

I am always setting off tap-to-click.

I can't go without it disabled.

I know my laptop allows for touchclick pressure sensitivity. That's why I have no trouble with it. If I want to click, I'll make sure I hit it hard enough.

I've also got my touchpad movement sensitivity jacked way up. For whatever reason, I like it high up there. Always throws off other people though.

On my Vista laptop, it was really hard to disable the setting I just turn the touchpad off entirely unless I have a nonworking mouse.

Was it tucked away somewhere?

My laptop runs Vista, and I didn't have any trouble disabling it.

That sounds like it might be more of a touchpad specific thing than an OS thing though.

I've never in my life seen any touchpad drivers that weren't Synaptic, though.

I was hardly aware others existed!

Not sure what my old laptop had, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Synaptic. My current netbook is Elan.

Which netbook model did you say you had again, though...? My Aspire One and my Toshiba Satellite both have Synaptic drivers, as did my old Gateway...

A bit more on topic, I've heard of netbook with 800x480 screens... the thought of that is honestly scary.

Mine is all Dell, so it's bound to be different. I can change touchpad speed, click pressure, tapping speed, horiz/vert scrolling speed and more.

Mine's a Compaq (Cheapaq) Presario C700, which I got in January 2008 mostly because it was (IIRC) the cheapest laptop they had

I've actually been worried about Compaq products for a while. I avoided them in favor of Toshiba.

How are their monitors, anyway...? I need a new one, and it might just end up being a Compaq.

My laptop's screen has been holding out pretty well I don't know about their standalone monitors.

I would strongly suggest avoiding Compaq monitors, if their LCDs are anything like their CRTs were.

Any... suggestions on who to go for, then? I was considering Compaq because theirs were hte cheapest 1600x900 monitors... but if they're bad, then yeah.

I think that's basically Compaq's niche in the computer world. They're cheap.

Before I had my laptop, I used an AOC monitor

Xkeeper is currently using a 19" (?) widescreen HP monitor, which has a very bright and vibrant picture, and even more controls and settings than either of my two 21" monitors (Samsung and ViewSonic). I don't remember the price, but it was very affordable!
