I forgot about that! I tried it a while ago - it's cool but it didn't affect all apps for me, and I prefer ClearType still.

I don't even have Standard Smoothing on.

It's not that I don't like smoothing fonts, but I prefer seeing text in individual pixels, even on fonts that most people don't like.

GDI++

Why yes, I wanted OSX's shitty thick-and-fuzzy fonts instead of crisp Cleartype, how did you ever know

horf

I use a few pixel fonts too (like Photoshop 6's Admui3sm, almost everywhere) and they're unaffected by ClearType, so I don't even see that much antialiased text outside of the browser

And I feel the same about GDI++'s antialiasing, ClearType just looks thinner and sharper (and more readable)

Pixel fonts look great without smoothing - I can use them fine. It's just regular fonts which look horrible without it.

Web pages and apps with normal Windows fonts and no smoothing are just .

I've always preferred the good ol' Standard method over ClearType, even on LCDs. I've grown too accustomed to seeing small fonts pixellated, I guess.

I'd much rather use CT over OSX's method, though. Blech. As I recall, CT looks sharper and cleaner because it still aligns each character to whole pixel boundaries and only softens edges horizontally, whereas OSX has finer control over character placement (not dependent on pixel resolution) and just softens everything.

You know, I never even bothered to check... *does so*

Standard. I'm used to it, pixels don't really drive me nuts or anything.

I actually prefer some fonts when they're pixelated.

Verdana is one of these fonts.

I used to be like this with Tahoma 8pt and MS Sans Serif. I've grown to prefer the ClearTyped versions a lot more now though.

To be honest, I probably would never have realized there was a difference. I've been using computers regularly since the XP days but since I was young, font was simply font to me.

I've always analysed things like fonts a LOT. I remember a while ago pointing out a sign in a shop to my mom where they had used 0 instead of O. She was like "How did you notice that?!"

I can go around and look at signs and identify the font they use, if it's one of the regular/common Windows/Office fonts. I'm a nerd.

The only font stuff I sort of dabble in are fixed-width fonts. I really like Lucida Console for my fixed-width. Courier (New) is too typewriter-y and wide for my liking.

Thanks for reminding me to disable all font smoothing.

I like it better without, even though I'm on an LCD. (Seriously. ClearType hurts my eyes.)

...And of course, I can't convert SWFs with antialiasing disabled because it messes up some fonts in videos. Thanks a lot, Adobe.

Honestly, I kinda wonder if I'll be able to handle having Cleartype on under a CRT.

It might be less unbearable under a decent resolution... and I'll have to get used to it anyway or 7 might end up looking really awkward.

That's not too difficult around here. Everyone uses Comic Sans.

COMIC SANS IS THE BEST FONT EVER. AND IT'S SO PROFESSIONAL LOOKING AND DOESN'T AFRAID OF ANYTHING

I've familiarized myself with the old MacOS fonts (Chicago, Geneva, Monaco, etc.), even at multiple sizes, when I was about 10 And of course I know the common Windows fonts too ... (like Comic Sans, of course)

I still don't mind most of those in their old pixelated form either, but I'd think the difference between that and ClearType is pretty obvious

I used to use Comic Sans MS a lot.

I agree that it isn't exactly the greatest font to use on things, but I once read some kind of petition to ban it... almost made me use the font on my own site out of spite.

Comic Sans is bleh. High school teachers need to learn that there are other fonts to use to spruce up their worksheets.

I never liked the font Chicago The shape of the V and W bug me for some reason. They look kinda like IJ and IJJ.

I used to refer to Trebuchet as Blogbuchet because it was extremely popular on blogs
