Saw that commercial multiple times during football today.

Weird. That's all I can say. So basically they're trying to say they have an awesome phone coming out that doesn't have any bells and whistles?

I had that system error happen to me once when I did an OS update way back when...the issue is actually iTunes and not the phone itself, the program really has just become more and more of a piece of garbage with every update. I now have it auto-backup my phone for me in case it tries to pull that shit again.

The only issue I have with the iPhone is the "can't download more than 10 mb apps without an internet connection" bullshit (and the fact that syncing your apps to iTunes fucks shit up to hell. Oh and iTunes being a laggy and shitting itself when you hook up the phone) and the fact that the 3.0 os allows EVERYTHING TO FLIP WHEN TURNED. While this is actually a pretty cool feature, since some people prefer to type their texts vertically, I find then when laying on my side for instance the thing will flip thinking its on its side...which of course it is, but that's besides the point. It'd be nice to have the ability to switch that on and off, but its not even that big of a deal, just something that always kinda annoyed the hell out of me.

OTHER THAN THAT, I've had nothing but good things to say about the phone (especially now that it finally supports mms, what the fuck) and I don't get a lot of these complaints...I can't honestly recall a single instance where I've ever once felt like I needed to run two apps at once, let alone five. What the hell? I can run an app while in a phone call, if I really need to, so it's not like the thing is incapable of multi-tasking. I will say though that it pisses me off that the text message sounds are completely uncustomizable (my old Razr could do it, for christ sakes) and the fact that ringtones have to be M4As with a renamed extension (or more retardedly, the fact that you can't just use a song stored on the "iPod")

I really don't care for the way the iPod function on it works at all, I would have LOVED to have had a little virtual "wheel" like the oldschool iPods had but hell...that's likely more of a complaint to the iPod software than the phone itself, since I assume the iTouch etc all work the same. Scrolling through a song SUCKS ASS AND THE SCRUB FUNCTION IS A TINY BAR THAT EVERY FINGER EVER IS TOO BIG TO TOUCH and you just end up fucking up and getting mad. Slightly tilting the phone will also sometimes make it think you wanted to turn shuffle on and will load a random song right then and there, disregarding the fact that you were already listening to something. Again, this is more of a complaint with the modern iPod software, I really do miss my old 2 gig nano. That was a nearly perfect MP3 player (alas, its battery has passed on)

Oh and the "listings" (contacts, iPod songs, etc) are kind of akward to scroll through until you figure out that it actually goes by alphabetically opposite of the way you'd think to scroll. But honestly...all things considered, it's a pretty cool phone. Certainly not worth the $300+ asking price, but still a very fun phone.

Now if Apple could just work at making iTunes not a bulky peice of lagshit (it would actually be a pretty good program for organizing stuff on the phone/iPods if it wasn't so shitty and ass-backwards half the time), I would be a happy man.

Or just use iFunBox. Simple, clean, easy to use, and free.

Anyway, my biggest annoyance with upgrading and re-jailbreaking is Cydia. Seriously, FUCK Cydia. It's slow, it's clunky, it's prone to crashing (A LOT), and it's just so incredibly annoying to deal with that I'd gladly stay with 3.0.whatever the heck I'm using now until the end of time at this point.

I find the iPhone to be pretty good, actually. The capacitative touch (that thing where it uses the electricity in your fingers for touch) works very well. There are styluses available which channel your capacitative electricity, and I've tried them, but for anything but drawing I've found it's easier to just use my hands.

Also, most of the phones you guys mention don't appear to be available in Australia either.

I've also had bad experiences with AT&T. I tried to switch to them because they're cheaper than Comcast, and they never hooked up my service but continued to charge me

(they eventually refunded me) And their phone support line is a nightmare. I kept staying on hold and being shunted around, and they gave me random generic advice like "Restart your computer".

Please, don't put me on hold. I have to pay for every minute even if it's "toll-free".

I think I actually get a lot more use out of my Aspire One and my generic Samsung phone that hardly does much than I would an iPhone.

I'd rather browse the internet on a 1024x600 screen than a smaller one, and as for the phone... I don't talk much, so it's better for me to just pay for minutes as I need them instead of sticking with a plan.

Not to mention, the Aspire One can pretty much emulate everything I care about flawlessly...

It's all cheaper in the long run too, scarily enough...

Apple makes sexy hardware... but you can't replace the batteries, their policies and tech support blow, and it's not really reliable. I wish someone else could make such nice-looking hardware without suckifying it.
Nintendo's is pretty good, but they design their devices to be computationally weak (it's cheaper and games don't really need it) and their system software just fucking blows. PSP has great software but just doesn't look nice, and desperately needs a touch screen. It'd be a dream come true for homebrew if the DS were as powerful as the PSP, and had properly-designed software.
(When I talk about the software I mean the operating system, BIOS, etc, not the games. I rarely use my game consoles for games anymore.

Sometimes I wish Nintendo and Sony hadn't split up in the SNES era. But then I remember that Sony are a bunch of jerks, and it makes me glad they did. If Nintendo could grab a few of Sony's hardware and (especially) software engineers, without the marketing jerks to shit all over the result, I bet they could replace the iPhone.
...too bad they probably still wouldn't even try. D:
