when people HAVE to maximize windows on high resolution displays. seriously.

It's 2009, not 1996.

It actually gets on my nerves too. I like being able to see multiple windows at once!

Here's a full list of programs I maximize:

I guess I'm just used to maximizing stuff Then again, my resolution is only 1280*800. Sometimes I'll make something smaller to fit an AIM window to the right though.

I maximize some things in 1152x864 or even 1440x900... hell, even web browsers in 1680x1050.

Mostly browsers and IRC clients, though. Nothing else except Sound Club.

I only tend to maximize programs which actually benefit from the larger view, like Firefox, Lunar Magic, or Photoshop. Basically, any program that would otherwise require a lot of scrolling or zooming out.

Okay, I'll admit to maximizing Photoshop and Sound Club.

BUT NOTHING ELSE

WoW is maximized, games, like HL2, TF2, and the such get maxed, and so does my web browser.
Running 1600x1200. Is there a problem with that, ladies?!

I actually don't maximize mIRC on 1440x900, because that computer doesn't see me in nearly as many channels as the desktop.

I also rarely maximize AIM windows, but if there's a lot of talking going on. Then again, that's when I was still on 1024x768...

I still maximize everything. Yes I'm still stuck in 1996.

Well, an exception would be Winamp and MSN. And the calculator.

I don't maximize either (or rarely), even the browser window is only set to fill most of the second screen (leaving space for IRC) ... it's also why I don't like the trend to make everything bigger on screen, higher resolutions to me mean more stuff on screen at once

But up to when I had my single 19" at 1280x1024, I did keep most programs maximized and had to use the taskbar (or keep windows on top) a lot more

I maximize most of my windows. Only ones that don't get maxed are games, zsnes, notepad files, SMILE and its hex-related programs, and that's about it. I switch back and forth between windows enough that I don't need to see everything. That and I don't like seeing a lot of visible clutter on my screen. It annoys me.

I actually don't use my taskbar much, despite the lower resolution. I just tend to alt-tab a lot, and minimize things I'm not running to the dock.

1680x1050 over here and I'm running a maximized Firefox window.

I maximize most things, actually... guess I'm just used to that from the Windows 3.1 days.

I used to have this habit. I'd maximise EVERY window I had open. I stopped doing it and I discovered that it's actually better.

Web pages don't look empty and short (because I have a 1680x1050 screen), it's a lot easier to multitask (makes using my netbook hell now though) and I just find it easier. My usual setup is having a bunch of stuff I always keep track on (like chat windows and such) below and any particular window I'm working on (Visual Studio, Notepad++, etc) overlapping part of that.

...Believe it or not, I actually maximize things less on my netbook. I guess my more compact XP theme helps, though.

One thing I hate about Ubuntu Netbook Remix is how things automatically maximize. In fact, I hate most netbook "interfaces". It's a computer, not a fucking iPhone. I want to use it like a computer.

Alt+Tab is my friend.

But I don't have too many problems multitasking using the Taskbar.

I have no idea how you can live with that. The small space is so constricting for me considering that I'm used to normally having it huge.

I only maximize Opera on my computer. I just like being able to see almost all of the contents of the webpage.

If I had a bigger screen, I'd probably stop maximizing it.

I usually either use the taskbar or click on the window I use Alt-Tab occasionally, but usually to switch out of a full-screen program.

I usually use both Alt+Tab and the taskbar. I hate how I don't have a choice on my netbook though - I'm forced to use Alt+Tab always because the touchpad is just far too slow.

edit: Oh right, clicking on windows works too. I use that most of the time for stuff that's on my screen and not minimised/hidden.
