I have an old 19(?)" CRT sitting in the other bedroom in this apartment that I'd like to put to use. It has a VGA connector, and I'd need to buy a VGA→DVI adapter to use this monitor.

My primary monitor is an LCD, also 19". Does this sound jarring at all or should I just wait and invest in a second panel? (I'd rather not spend money on another monitor, I'm thrifty )

edit: just to clarify, the bezel on my current monitor is about half an inch, the CRT looks to be about 3/4 of an inch.

I regularly use a 19 inch non-widescreen CRT with a 19 inch widescreen LCD... it's just like looking at two monitors.

Not jarring unless you plan on having some super-ultra widescreen gaming action split between them.

Like I said, it was just the gap I was worried about. Now to find somewhere that sells such an adapter.

You get used to the split after a while. I run a dual-display setup across a 23" panel and my laptop's built-in 15.4" screen, and it's just become second nature.

Yeah, but this is a HUGE HONKIN' CRT we're talking about, here. coincidentally it wouldn't fit in my desk in its current state.

edit: Went ahead and dug it up, it's too big to fit on my desk. It's 17" not 19" like I initially thought, and that's unusable for me.

My 19 inch is a gigantic 2-foot long 1.5-foot wide 2 foot tall monstrosity, so yes, it works with that. In fact, I have a speaker between it and my LCD monitor, making the gap nearly a foot wide--it's still okay.

My father uses a splitter for I believe it is Crossfire. He has both a box monitor and a plasma for this dual monitor setup (For some reason he uses his 19" as his primary...)

I will have to ask him for the splitter, and I should be able to provide a newegg for you (Should not cost no more than 10 dollars IIRC)

I have my 2 screens right next to each other, only separated by their borders (just over 1 inch total), and they almost have the same dot pitch (which is good), but different heights ... it's not a problem at all, since I always keep their contents separate, just aligning them is good for when I do move between them (mouse, windows, etc.)

I also had a CRT + LCD (both 19" I think) at work once, it was a bit odd (since the LCD was sharper and brighter) but still fine

Thanks, but I've decided to hold off on it for a bit. The base of the monitor itself hangs off the top portion of my desk by about two inches, and I'm worried it could fall off.
