Eh. I've got an iPod touch and I do have large fingers, so I generally use the landscape keyboard. It works fairly well most of the time but my hands do become a problem sometimes and I wish there was a stylus, too.

I've only used a phone like that once, and the buttons seemed big enough even for my largish fingers

I have tiny monkey paws so I do pretty well with my iphone. As for the VLC port, don't bother. It has terrible sound quality for some reason, like it's outputting at 8bit 8000hz or something. Video decoding is also dreadfully slow. You might be able to play MPEG2 at 320x240 at full speed. I'd instead recommend AVPlayer, which uses the built in Quicktime. It's good enough for most stuff and most video software worth anything can encode to the required AAC+H.264 in a MP4 format, even mencoder and ffmpeg.

Is it THAT bad? I'm getting one soon. My fingers are not that big but I'm still worried about how usable it will be for me.

I'm used to touchscreens (I tried to type with my fingers iPhone-style in Animal Crossing Wild World, and sort-of succeeded at first but failed horribly after a bit) so I was pretty sure I'd be fine, but I hear so many people saying it's hard to use and hard to type on..

I don't know if it has been said, but yeah, my sisters iphone seems to looks for fat presses, not small ones. Not sure if you can adjust it. Therefore, a stylus will not work well with it.
