I agree completely.
All these powerups are fun in the right levels where they're designed for, like Kuribo's Shoe. Otherwise, they're a total pain - fun to mess around with for the first few minutes, but annoying afterwards. SMA4 did it right - all the powerups from SMB3 and SMW in the same game.

Nintendo killed all NSMB's gimmicky powerups in NSMBWii. Let's hope the propeller suit and penguin suit don't end up being as bad as the Mini/Mega Mario and Shell Mario.

Shell Mario was pretty fun sometimes but got to be a hindrance easily.

Yeah, too bad you needed the e-Reader to get the extra levels in SMB3 for GBA, and most of them were only released in Japan

That's why you emulate! I don't have an actual copy of SMA4, just a ROM with all the eReader stuff.

I used to be there with 8 posts. Someone (Bloodstar I think) mentioned it in IRC saying not to post so as not to break it. Of course, I posted.

I can't believe I've reached 34 posts. This has to be some sort of record. (And boredom.)

I probably would have around the same amount of posts as usual, but I've been distracted doing other stuff.

I probably should just include myself in the tie.

I'm amazed I've made this many posts already.

I died on Ikachan. Went into this place that had a lot of fish... and a block trapped the path. I think I'll just wait until I get back on my main computer to play it again, it's far easier there.

I managed to not die through the whole game. Cave Story, well, it's a different story. I reset everytime I die, though...

I'm so bad at it that .. I'm level 1 and can't even figure out where to go or what to do next.

I'll probably miss Shell Mario if I ever play the next NSMB game.

He was fun to screw around with.

SMA4 did it right - all the powerups from SMB3 and SMW in the same game.

Except they were only available in the bonus e-Reader levels. :\ Shame.

You could scan the cards in to attain those in the normal game, if I'm remembering right...

Then again, I haven't touched that cart since 2007. I could easily be wrong.

That's about all he was useful for.

Yeah, and they were sprite based which I really liked.

Don't get me wrong, 3D stuff is cool - but I far prefer sprites. NSMB just looks bland, especially since all the 2D stuff lacks outlines. SMA4 has the best Mario platformer graphics yet IMO.

I actually really liked NSMB's graphical style. It seemed like an excellent mixture of classic-style graphics with a newer style.

I need to finish that thing sometime, thuogh...

Here's a tip: If you've played SMB3 or SMW, NSMB doesn't compare to those. At all. (Yes, I know it sounds hypocritical coming from me, but it's true. I used to think NSMB was the BEST MARIO PLATFORMER EVARRR before I played SMB3 and SMW.)

NSMB kinda bored me. It was okay as a nostalgic return-to-form thing, but it felt like it didn't do enough to distinguish itself from the other Mario 2D platformers.

Treeki: You played NSMB before SMB3 and SMW?

I basically went in order. SMB1, SMB2 (DDP), SMB3, SMW, YI, NSMB, YIDS And throw SMB2 (Lost Levels) in there sometime after SMW.

I personally think nothing can beat SMB3, though NSMB did come damn close.

I don't think I could play SMW anymore. Hacks have done it to death for me. :|

I actually like SMW more than SMB3 just slightly, but then again, I've never been as big of an SMW hacking enthusiast as you or probably a lot of people here have, plus I have fonder memories of that game... so yeah.

I think the order for me went like 1, SMW, 3, 2, YI, Lost Levels, NSMB.
