I don't think it will last very long. I lack more ideas.

This thread seems like it would have been one of the ideas posted in the thread with the title "Threads that wouldn't make it".

I dunno, it seems like a fairly decent idea. It's not too hard to pull off, just count up the number of words in the post and talk about the thread. See? That wasn't so hard. Then talk about random junk. I love you ikachan! You are amazing.

At first it's three words, then six, then twelve, twenty-four, fourty-eight and now ninety-six, a few more posts and it'll grow long enough to fill multiple pages ...

There's also the question of whether you count contractions as one word or two, since it's really two words, so you could be off by a few

Maybe a better idea would be to add a fixed amount per post so it doesn't grow exponentially, that way it could last much longer than about a dozen posts ... there, I'm done

It would be nice to see this topic after a few pages, when people try to write anything within their 10,000 words they have to write. This would essentially become a second story forum.

I’m making the counting of my words much easier by simply using MS Word, which automatically counts all words I’m writing here without me needing to count every teensy tiny word and risk missing one. It’s very convenient, I tell you.

If you’ve been wondering why I was absent the last days, I can tell you that too: no, it’s not Internet troubles again, but simply the fact that I’m booked solid with other projects and hardly have the time to post in here. It should become better in a few weeks though, so all is not lost.

I hope nobody posts while I’m writing this, otherwise I would have to write 384 words, and I have no idea how I should do that, seeing as I already have trouble writing only 192 words. Sure enough, I won’t try posting here again, it would simply be way too challenging to be.

Well, that’s it from me for now.

This will suck even more later, when doubling the post length will require another few thousand words, but that's if this thread even gets that far ... after 20 posts (default page size), it'd already be up to a whole 3145728 words, and well, you'd hit the post length limit (64k?) long before that ... or it'd just take forever to load at this point So this is why I'm doing another post now while I still can, hehe.

As for counting words, EditPlus can do it too, and even counts contractions as two, but I still counted manually for the previous post

I'm already running out of things to say and not even halfway done, only getting one third done even, so how will I fill the rest? Well, I don't really know either, so I guess I'll just say random stuff and see what comes out, since I'm bored as always and got nothing better to do right now ...

Are we even supposed to talk about anything in this thread? Since it's only about doubling the words on each post and not using random words, I guess it could be about anything that isn't pure gibberish or nonsense ... still, when this post alone is around the length of all previous posts combined, it can be a bit hard to find enough to reply to, but I can't complain since the next post after this one will have to do all that plus add the length of this one It's already reminding me of what I had to write essays or whatever at school and there was a minimum amount of words required, except there's no specific subject or grading this time

But one thing is for sure, I won't be the one doing another post after the next, but any of you can feel free to do it if you want, and I won't mind ... I already took about 15 minutes to get that far and still got a little bit more left, so quadrupling that would make it a hour, and who would even want to read that much anyway?

Well, at least I still managed to do 384 words, so that's good

A human rights act would be an important step towards a fair go for all Australians.
MANY of us may know of an episode of cruel treatment of an old person in a nursing
home, have felt for parents struggling to get their disabled child a school place or shared the
agony of a family whose mentally ill son was jailed instead of being cared for in hospital.
These things happen - all too often. Yes, we have the common law as a bulwark for our
rights, a free press and a democratic Parliament. But for people whose basic rights are
violated in these ways, those protections simply do not kick in soon enough, if at all.
Australia kept children behind barbed wire in mandatory detention for years. Through our
free press and tireless advocates, we found out most of those children became mentally and
physically ill. Several tried to kill themselves. After years of media coverage and pressure on
our Parliament, this barbaric treatment of children stopped, but not in time to prevent many
of them suffering long-term damage.

If a human rights act - a charter of rights - had been in place, mandatory detention of
children would have been publicly measured against these rights. The policy would have
been found wanting much earlier, perhaps even before it was implemented.
If public servants and others hired by government to carry out its polices were trained to
recognise and respect human rights laid out in Australian law, much of the poor treatment
inflicted on the disabled, the old, and children would not occur.
It is no use telling a single mother who has been kicked out of public housing because of
bureaucratic bungling that the common law is perfect.

Strange that the vociferous opponents of protecting rights by an act of Parliament are rich,
powerful men: former NSW premier Bob Carr; former High Court judge Ian Callinan, QC;
and successful barrister Peter Faris, QC. They are light years away from the mentally ill
public housing tenant or the wheelchair-bound young man trying to get a job. So they argue
against a human rights law, claiming concern about "unelected judges" invading the territory
of our parliamentary legislators.
These arguments could only apply if a constitutional US-type bill was being proposed. But
such a bill has been ruled out of the Government's human rights consultation and ruled out
by more than 70 community organisations in a human rights network I have been working
with.

We are discussing an ordinary act of Parliament that can only be changed by Parliament. If a
court found a particular government policy violated Parliament's own human rights law, it
would be up to Parliament to respond, to change the policy or keep it. But we would all
know about it and our elected politicians would be under pressure to justify to voters why,
for example, mandatory detention was to be maintained.

Those who oppose such a law must know this. Do they persist in arguing against something
that is not going to happen because the status quo has served them so well?
They know as well as anyone that indigenous Australians suffer terrible disadvantage and
often appalling living conditions. Do opponents of a human rights bill believe that the status
quo gives Aborigines a fair deal in relation to the law, education and health?

The solutions for indigenous problems are complex, requiring many actions from
government, business and the community. But might these opponents not consider, along
with all interested Australians, that the blinding evidence of the denial of a fair go provides a
good case for Parliament making a new law to protect those missing out? This law would be
only one step but an important one towards dignity and security for all in Australia.
In true democratic spirit, the Rudd Government has set up a public consultation, with a
panel of impressive Australians, to hear the views of all on how to protect human rights
better in this country. I hope all Australians who know of human rights failures in any
context will let the panel know what they think. This consultation must not be derailed by a
few power-wielding men. It is a chance to move forward towards a fair go for all.

I can't believe that I am actually doing this, hopefully no one makes a post before me thus making this post a total waste of time. How many people are actually going to read through this entire post anyway? I really should be studying for my math test right now although if I didn't understand something an hour ago why would I understand it now? Earlier I went to a site that offered online tutoring and they helped me with one of the questions that I was stuck on. After that they tried to get me to pay twenty dollars a week for more of their service and I laughed and closed the tab . Tomorrow I'm going to a friend's house who is pretty good at math, hopefully he'll be able to help me out.

Wow that was only one hundred and thirty six words and I need to reach on thousand four hundred?! This is going to take a while...I wonder if I'll actually be able to type over a thousand more words of random gibberish. I watched more of Raocow's let's play of Super Mario omega today, he's pretty close to the end already. I really hope that I can make another Super Mario World hack someday, I already have tons of ideas for it although without lots free time not much is going to get done. Besides, I already have another project to work on, this one isn't a rom hack but is instead a fan made equal to one of my favorite games...hmm I wonder what it could be .

Still only two hundred and sixty five words? I'm going to go insane before I finish typing this. News about Ar Tonelico III has been released and now I'm really excited. Unfortuneately it isn't even coming out in Japan until next Spring which means it probably won't arrive in North America until 2011 or 2012. I enjoyed Ar Tonelico I a bit more than the second one although number two was still a lot of fun. Speaking of games that I'm looking forward to New Super Mario Bros. Wii is coming out soon! I still remember how excited I was when the Nintendo DS one came out, 2D Super Mario platformers are always awesome!

And we're not even at four hundred words yet! Let's see how many more random things I can think about. I'm playing this game called "Shadowgate" for the NES. It's like one of those really old point and click adventure games, I'm not really sure why I'm playing it, I don't usually like these kinds of games . I find it funny that if you use the sword on yourself your character picks it up and stabs himself with it, I mean, why the heck would they even program that into the game? I've died in so many different ways that it isn't funny anymore...okay well maybe it is still a little bit funny .

I'm over a third of the way there! Last night I finished watching the main seventy five episodes of the anime "Hikau no Go" and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It's nice to watch an anime that doesn't have fights with blood flying everywhere in episode. I'm actually getting really tired of watching physical fights in anime since they're so unrealistic that they might as well not even show you the fight and just skip to the result since there is no way to make any sense of what is going on during the fight anyway. Some guy: "aha I injured your right arm and now you can't hold your sword! What are you going to do now?" other guy:"Because this is an anime I will use some random source of strength to pick up my sword even though if this was real light I would have bled to death by now! prepare to stand perfectly still as I slice your head off!". But even after the some guy's head is chopped off he still won't be dead because it's an anime! SO in the end we learn that the fight was entirely pointless and the only thing that a person could gain from watching it would be to see blood fly across the screen and watch the characters yell random remarks back at each other. Even though I just typed all of that it doesn't mean that I'm against fight scenes in animes, I'm just trying to think of things to type .

I'm over half way there! Surely, I must me absolutely mad to be doing this but I don't care, it's not like I have anything better to do (other than studying for my math test that is ). Today flew by like it was nothing and I didn't really get anything done. I tried to do some math review questions although I couldn't figure most of them out. My math teacher isn't very good at explaining how to complete the homework that he assigns. All that he does is say some random gibberish and write a few things on the board although in the end what he's given you isn't really enough to help you answer anything. Is anyone actually reading this? If you are, feel free to send me a PM and you will receive one thousand imaginary dollars right out of my imaginary wallet! But wait! If you PM me within the next twenty minutes, because you know we can't do this all day, you'll receive an additional one billion for hundred and fifty five million six hundred and twelve thousand one hundred and sixty four dollars! Just imagine the imaginary things that you could buy with that! You could buy an imaginary dream house or and imaginary boat of some kind, or, you could even buy the legendary imaginary copy of Super Mario Omega 2 that will be coming to stores sometime in the year 8275! So don't delay, send me a PM today!

Well what do ya know, the paragraphs above this one add up to exactly nine hundred and ninety nine words, at least I'm getting closer . I'm surprised that I've already been typing this for about fifteen minutes, it hasn't felt like that long. Unfortunately I'm running out of ideas for things to type but at least I have less than four hundred words to go! I wonder if anyone would notice if I just mashed the key board for a bit, I mean who is actually going to read through this entire post? I bet that everyone will just scroll past it thinking that it's just a bunch of meaningless garbage (which it is ). I bet that I won't even get one PM regarding my awesome free imaginary giveaway, well it's their loss if didn't read through my super amazing one thousand four hundred and twenty word post!

Darn, still two hundred and fifty words to go, well at least it's almost over. Luckily no one else has posted a reply yet, I mean I can't imagine me or anyone else typing out two thousand eight hundred and forty words, you would have to be completely insane (like me )! I have to be almost finished by now, maybe only a hundred or two to go, I can do it REGGIE! Just watch, I'm probably going to get to the last line and my computer is going to crash or something horrible like that. If that happens there's no way that I'm typing all of this out again, it's already taken me over twenty minutes to do it the first time so why would I want to do it again? Only about a hundred words to go, I know it's sad but soon this gibberish filled post will be coming to an end. Are you sad? Are you even reading this? I highly doubt that you are but if you are then maybe you should question whether you are reading it or not because I don't think that you are. Only about fifty more words to go. I can do it! If I can beat the Impossible Quiz than I can do anything, even fly!...or not . Well at least it's almost over. Only twenty five words to go. I'm so excited, soon I will be free from this horrible place!

Well I guess this is the end !

Um...or not. It appears that I still have more to go and that my goal is actually one thousand five hundred and thirty six! Just when I thought I was done I realize that my quest is not yet over and that I must return to this horrible place one last time to finish what should have been finished the first time. I have less than a hundred words to go though so it's not really that bad. Before I know it I'll be doing something else and I'll never have to think about this horrible post again! I feel bad for the Red Snift, now he has to add on to the post that he was making, I'm really sorry . Anyway this is the end of my post (for real this time).

So well, even though I said earlier that I’ll never ever give it a try again due to the sheer length of the next posts which would make it near impossible for me to complete, I decided to write another one even though my goal is an extreme three thousand and seventy-two words. I would not have expected people to actually post in here, but as always, I’m wrong again, so here we go. Don’t worry, I’ll fill my three thousand something words only with useful and valuable content and try to keep it at least a bit interesting, so you won’t fall asleep halfway through. Just watch and see.

Now Acmlm’s post stating there’s a post limit made me interested. I already figured it’d stop at the board’s limitations if not at the people who don’t want to write anything more, and that limit of sixty-five thousand five hundred and thirty-five characters should be hit pretty soon considering the exponentially increasing length of our posts. Maybe this one will be the post to hit it, even. This would be bad and I would need to care using only short, small two or three letter words to avoid hitting this limit, which would immediately make all my effort go to waste, which would be sad considering I should be spending the time I write this text finishing my projects, for instance.

According to Word, I’ve by now written two hundred and thirty-four words and one thousand two hundred eighty-four characters. Considering I have to write three thousand and seventy-two words, that would make approximately fifteen thousand characters at the end, which is well under the sixty-five thousand five hundred and thirty five characters limit. If anything, it will only trouble the people who post after me, and that’s nothing of my business, so yeah.

Despite people saying otherwise, I actually took my time to read each and every word you wrote on there. It’s actually pretty interesting what people write there, so if you have some free time, you should consider doing it. If you don’t have free time, you should print it, even though you may need several blank sheets of paper for all that, so you should be cautious if you happen to be low on paper. (I still have a package with five hundred sheets of paper, so I can print whatever I want, except maybe that one hundred megabytes PDF with more than one thousand pages).

Well, by now I’ve just reached a ninth of what I’m supposed to reach. I’ll try to keep my head cool throughout all of this and just relax and focus on writing. I might even consider turning on some cool music to make this so much easier. We’ll see. Although I would first have to ensure I no longer hear any of the music from next room, which is for some reason turned on despite nobody actually listening.

By now I’ve already written five paragraphs with approximately one hundred words each. If this continues, I’ll probably have thorty paragraphs until it’s over, haha. Oh this will be so much fun, I tell you.

I’m making this arbitrary break because I want to tell you a bit about how my desk in front of the computer looks like. As with most computer desks, it’s an absolute chaos and totally unorganized (well did you expect anything else), and it has multiple stuff everywhere half of which is trash and should probably go into the waste basket rather than here. All around are CDs which are assorted and again unorganized. Some of those are 1995 games (ahh, the nostalgia), others are old stuff which I no longer need, some are empty and there are more stuff. I even have floppies on there for use with my floppy disk drive in case I need it (though I didn’t need it since around 2005, so they’ll probably just collect dust and die eventually).

Now for a different topic, DVD recorders are extremely annoying. I wanted to record a program running at 12:30 AM, and obviously I didn’t want to stay up all the way so I decided to record it. Well that wasn’t as easy as I thought. First, I needed to get it to open the tray, which took several attempts. Then it closed the tray before I even finished inserting the DVD. After I finally managed to insert the DVD, I tried to configure it to record. Well that was infinitely complicated and hidden in an area where I’d never expect it. After I FINALLY found it, I entered my time etc. so it knew when to record. Since I was confused that it didn’t show the record time I tried that at least three more times before simply thinking that it should work regardless. The next day I wake up and noticed it didn’t record anything because I inserted a DVD-R and it only accepts DVD+R. Oh I was so in rage I would’ve thrown it out of the window. Where are the old VHS disks? Back then everything was so easy, you just had to enter your time which was very intuitive and easy and most importantly without annoying dialogs etc., then it would record without problems because there is only one type of VHS disk, unlike with DVDs where there are at least seven different types which are of course all incompatible to each other. Why did they have to make it like that? I’ll probably never understand. I even set up two DVD players, and neither of them works.

Recently, my cable provider sent a letter to me stating it has upgraded all cable lines and can now provide Internet with a speed of up to thirty two megabits a second. This is very fast and a x10 increase of my current connection (very sad, I know). I’m not yet a customer of them, but this might actually make me want to switch, considering it does sound quite nice.

By now I’ve written exactly one thousand words and five thousand five hundred and thirty-nine words. But don’t worry, we’ll get this finished in no time.

So where did I stop? Ah yes, my desk. Right in front of me is some paper, scissors, more papers with some phone numbers written on it, and some trash. I don’t know why I have these right there and what they’re doing, but that’s the case with almost everything in here. To the right of me are more papers with more stuff written on them. Some of these are probably still from last year and I never actually bothered to trash them. I even have a ticket in there. Now on to the left, we have more papers, an empty bottle, a very useful English dictionary, and a weird calendar which I only use for swatting flies and other annoying beasts. It’s much better than you would expect considering its sheer weight. Also on there are several pens which surprisingly are all still functional (most of the pens in this house are already empty) as well as another train ticket.

Now if we go upwards, we’ll find several books, Please don’t try asking me what these books are for, I really have no idea myself, but they’re there since I occupied this place, so yeah. There’s also some photo paper up there which I never use since I can’t differentiate between normal paper and photo paper (seriously, what’s the difference?). There are also a few empty disc cases up there for old games, and even more scissors (wow, I start to sound emo).

Now if we go to the right, we’ll find several CDs like I mentioned, and some floppies. I believe the floppies with drivers for my old printer are still in there, as are floppies with photos and most importantly a floppy with Winamp 2.64. Oh those were the truly golden times, 1999 when I first got Internet and it still was all personal and not taken over by companies like it is now. Browsing through those personal websites with 56k, reading all these interesting stories and learning stuff you didn’t know before (Wikipedia didn’t exist back then, neither did Google) was quite a lot of fun. I miss those times.

Now we go to the top, and I mean the real top. There we have tons of empty DVDs and CDs collected for my burning needs, which isn’t as uncommon as you’d think. Also on there is a huge collection of non-empty discs, although again this one is totally unorganized and I hardly find anything in there. Right next to that is a “photo” printer which I don’t use at all since I again can not tell the difference between photo quality and normal quality.

Right behind that is a real nostalgic thing: a portable dual radio/TV receiver with an equalizer and tape recorder. And with TV, I mean black and white TV. No, no colors, just grayscale. In earlier times when we were not at home, we’d take this with us to get some TV (surprisingly fun even with no colors) and radio whenever we needed. However now, we have an even smaller TV receiver which has the added bonus of being color, so we’d just use that one. And you might think that since it’s antenna you don’t get many channels, but in the city I count at least eight TV channels I can easily get (ARD, ZDF, RTL, Sat.1, hr, BR, SWF, US Army TV channel), so there’s enough variety for me, and there’s always something good running on these.

Now back to my collection on top of that old nostalgic device is a small T-72 tank a friend assembled for me and gave me as a present. It’s pretty nice and decorates my room perfectly, so I decided to keep it.

So we’re only just halfway through, and I actually need to write all this once again, oh no, I don’t want to think about that. I need to concentrate on something else. But I think this will be easier than I think, especially when I’m finished and looking back to what I just wrote there. On second thought, however, I would have preferred a “continue the story” thread better. We had one of those, but it didn’t survive quite long sadly, even though it’s much easier since you only need to write one sentence and not the whole story once again. Now that I mentioned story, remember when I said this will become Story Forum 2? Well see, this is what I meant. People are now writing their stories to fill their words, just like in the Story Forum.

And now Word tells me that I somehow managed to write more than three pages full of my text. I’m very surprised at that, it’s quite a lot and I’m only just halfway through so it will definitely become more by the time I’m finished with my text.

Normally I’d write there that I don’t want someone to post before I’m finished, but I know this will definitely not happens for two clear reasons: first, it’s three thousand words and nobody with a clear mind wants to write that much, second, at this time of day everyone is sleeping so nobody will post even if he wanted to. However considering I’m starting to lose motivation right here, it might very well happen that someone posts before I’m finished. This would be very sad, considering I would then have to write six thousand or even twelve thousand words, which is a lot and would take me several hours to complete. Even this one already took me an hour to write, so it will only become even worse.

One thing I’ve never understood about this board is the donations bar at the bottom. I don’t understand the purpose of it. It’s definitely not just about donations despite its name, but it isn’t quite clear either so it always manages to leave me confused about its actual purpose.

Ouch, my left hand starts to hurt severely. I guess it can’t stand writing such long texts since I normally don’t ever do that (only short one liners or such usually).

Continuing with the mini paragraphs, I posted on an IRC channel that I need to write three thousand words in here. They all went wtf and told me to copy random fanfictions or such. Sadly, I’m not a cheater, because otherwise I would have seriously done that. It seems much easier than thinking of something to write here.

I would have preferred if the first post had only two words. This would have led to much nicer numbers following which are easier to memorize and easier to write texts in. See, after two comes the number four, then eight, followed by sixteen, which comes before thirty-two, just behind sixty-four, which is followed by one hundred twenty-eight. From there it continues with two hundred and fifty-six, then comes five hundred and twelve, followed by one thousand and twenty-four. The next number is two thousand and forty-eight, which is immediately followed by four thousand and ninety-six and then eight thousand one hundred and ninety-two. After that, that limit of sixty-five thousand five hundred and thirty-five characters will have surely been hit so it wouldn’t continue. Oh I seriously broke the no random words rule with that chunk of that, so excuse me princess.

And still, there are eight hundred words leftto write and I’m now out of ideas. This is definitely no good thing, as I don’t want all this effort I did in several hours of my lifetime to simply go to waste. It was too good and should be put to good use instead of being there for nothing.

In the meantime, I’m chatting a bit with fellow people on MSN to take a short break from this text. I need it by now, my head is full of this and I need to clean it up.

Ok now that I’m back, we can talk again. I have again 30 windows and as many tabs open, most of them originating from projects which I originally intended to finish some time, but forgot about it. Others are simply no longer needed and I would easily be able to close them, except that they don’t bother me enough to make me do it. Only if I actually have so many windows open it becomes disturbing (like when a scrollbar for the taskbar pops up because I have so many windows) I’ll try to close as many windows as possible. But this is actually quite rare.

Now there’s this one PlayStation game “TOCA Touring Car Championship”. I like to call it the last game ever produced where the programmers had a sense of humor. While you can race this game normally, it also has its share of fun cheats, like a controllable tank which you can use to shoot the other cars into oblivion, a secret Hell level, literally raining cats and dogs, super speed (with quite interesting effects!) and others. I simply love to go back to this game every so often and try it out again, it has a great replay value due to these fun cheats and I simply love it, as do other people on IRC who also happen to own this game. Too bad later games turned into a “I need to make as much money as possible no matter how much the game sucks” type, it’s quite sad and actually the reason most of my favorite games are older games. Also, most game companies now try to target the casual person, which sadly leaves out the main group of gamers who cannot conform to this type of game and won’t have any fun with it. This has happened with so many recently released games, I have to question whether there will be any good new game at all. I highly doubt it by now.

Now, as a last thing, I’ll check out YouTube. If I’m bored I’ll be sure to find some great videos there. I subscribed to a number of people there to have enough videos to keep me entertained for a long time, and if I ever don’t feel like wanting to do anything I’ll just browse there and watch some videos. Especially good “let’s play” style videos are things I really like and follow. Too bad YouTube kinda destroyed the soul of their site which these beta channels which are absolutely catastrophal to navigate through. Oh how I hate them. Several others hate them too, but of course YouTube won’t listen to anyone, so we’ll have to live with it or switch to another website (which is now easy thanks to several other YouTube-style websites opening for business, which definitely wasn’t the case a couple months ago).

Today, I managed to sleep until 3 PM for some reason. I absolutely have no idea how I managed to sleep that long, I never managed to do that before. When I woke up I thought “ok let’s get some breakfast” but then I looked at the clock and noticed it’s 3 PM already. I only thought “ok, how in the hell did THAT happen?” I seriously don’t want to know.

There’s a new IRC channel with a new fun game. It tells you a definition of a word and you have to guess the word. Despite its seemingly simple design, it’s actually quite challenging and lots of fun. It also supports foreign languages so you can train with that a bit, but if you don’t want to do that the English mode should offer enough of a challenge to keep you busy for a couple of days.

It was a fun ride with you guys, but it’s almost over now. I’ve written my required three thousand and seventy-two words now, so it’s time for me to stop at this point and say good-bye to you. I would have really loved to be able to talk with you guys some more about interesting topics, but the rules say I cannot continue beyond this point, which is really sad. I hope you enjoyed reading all this text, and in fact I managed to get to five and a half pages of text and almost seventeen thousand characters, a bit more than I predicted originally. Have fun writing a good reply!

Now, no one ever said anything about posting a story. This is a bit of fanfic I wrote so I'm keeping all the bells on and writing a supplementary 141 words to make it before I start. This is good practice for National Novel Writing Month where I'm writing a fifty thousand word novel in one month, the month of November. It will be crazy and insane and full of too much coffee which I will be cut off from even though I only take frappuchinos from Starbucks. I love Starbucks, it always smells nice in there but they don't clean the chairs right so smelly hobos sit there and then you do and it smells so weird, like funky weird. Also, I'm only showing you the first three chapters, to see the end you gotta ask, there is only one chapter left. Now I'm rambling.

Shadow Of A Hero: The Albatross

Notes on the Series: Alright, folks. I’m taking a wild guess that most of you didn’t read my humor//drama fics for .hack: .fiction//TEA and .hack//DUCKS. While this fiction generally stands alone it uses the main character Lara from both pieces. The only thing you need to know from those is that Lara was a player-tester of a tea-beverage that made her go hyper-insane and damaged her data which Balmung ended up fixing when she got turned into a duck. She also has the hugest crush on him.
Why Stand Alone? Like the cheese, this can be seen as a standalone fic. Why? Because Lara is no longer a spineless, lovesick wimp like I never meant her to be. She now kicks ass.
Dedication: As usual, my “sister” (note the quote) who has no fracking clue what .hack is, my baffle, Kabraxes who does. My second-cousin Katana definitely gets a dedication in here.
Rating: T for violence, potential swearing etc.
Continuity: Like most of my fics, this takes place AFTER .hack//DUCKS but right, right, right before //Legend of the Twilight (Bracelet) (.hack//DUSK).
Disclaimer: Hi, I’m not CyberConnect2, CC Corp, Rei Idumi (Izumi Rei) or any other fantastic people that have worked on and developed project.hack and .hack conglomerate. I’m not with Bandai or anyone else. Characters such as Balmung of the Azure Sky and others belong to their respective writers, artists and CC2 who designed his sexy wings. The only person I lay claim on is Lara who, like me, believes that Balmung soooo brought sexy back before Justin Timberlake even took off his awkward boy-band curls. Hellz yeah.

ON WITH THE FRIGGING SHOW!!

.login 1// Café Albiero

He knew he was looking for her. Asking a few people here and there for the Blademaster with short orange hair called ‘Lara’ pointed him in the direction of Café Albiero, one of the numerous art cafes that existed in the night city of Carmina Gadelica.
She looked different than when he last saw her. She traded her blue crossed-halter top for a stunningly skimpy vibrant red top that seemed to only be constructed of a piece of red cloth crossed over her chest and tied behind her neck, barely covering what was necessary. Her leg-plates were replaced with a sort of red strapped-armor that only covered one leg, revealing her snaking Scorching Wind Wave tattoo, a combination of her lofty, love-high attitude and her flippant, fiery side. By the way she seemed to lean alone, with her legs stretched out on the wrought-iron fence surrounding the café’s patio, sideways in her chair with some strange blade settled in her lap as she sipped a frosty cocktail in a triangular glass. He’d never seen this kind of sword before and he was pretty certain that it wasn’t in the strategy guide or rare event or he’d know already. It wasn’t why he was here but Balmung of the Azure Sky was desperate to know,
“Your sword… I’ve never seen it before is it-?”
“Rare Item” Lara interrupted, “The blade, it’s a rare item from a quest. It has its own sub-routine; it’s called the Albatross and has some kind of curse on it”
“Really? Can I see it?” he asked, pulling up a curly, iron chair across the table from her.
She blushed, knowing where it really came from and that he would know immediately, “I’d rather if you didn’t. What are you doing here, anyway?”
“I heard some rumors that a Blademaster here was going after the One Sin and thought you might know something about it”
Lara smiled, “I do. Tomorrow, I and my party are heading out to Omega Sickened Imprisoned Fallen Angel. I’m going to take down The One Sin.”
“WHAT?!”
“You heard me.”
”Lara, you can’t take on The One Sin! You don’t have the right Elemental attacks, you can’t beat it!”
“And how do you know that?” she flew up from her seat with The Albatross in hand, “You don’t know me, Balmung. Not any more. You just know the little player who had a crush on you way back when. It’s been a year now, and you know nothing about me”
“No, you’re right, I don’t. But I can tell you that even I had difficulty with The One Sin and I don’t think you’re ready for it. Really, no one’s prepared for what the Spectrum Dragon throws at you.”
“Wave Attacks. The breath attacks are the Wave Elements. It only attacks when you do, mirroring the aggression of your attack but you have a very small window to counter it with the opposing Wave element. It’s also best if you only fight as two people in the final boss, so me and Khiro are going up the mountain. Believe me, I’m ready.”
He tried to hide it, but Balmung was a little taken aback. Maybe she could do this. “What weapons are you taking?”
“Quizzing me, are you? Not that it’s any of your business but I’m taking The Albatross which is a combination Thunder/Water Wave, and a I acquired named Nevermore which is Darkness element.”
“It’s pretty rare to find a blade with two Wave elements”
“Yeah. Rare. Anyway, I’m challenging The One Sin at 3 o’ Clock if you care to come and watch someone else earn their wings” she said before disappearing in rings of light
“She logged out, didn’t she?” the “waiter” at the café said. It was almost humorous how Lara never noticed that he wasn’t an NPC, but after all, it was a clever disguise.
Checking his data book, Balmung nodded, “Yeah, she did” he sighed, “I can’t believe she’s taking on The One Sin! You know she’s not going to do it! I have to stop her…”
“No. No you don’t. You have to let go of her, Balmung. Lara seems to be a big girl and despite what you thought was her dependence on you, she seems to take care of herself.”
“I don’t know, Wizeman, I just don’t know. It’s like, I know she’s probably doing this for attention or fame more than personal satisfaction but I can tell that she’s probably trying to show me up too.”
“I can see why. Balmung,” he sat, “You’ve been coddling her. After drugging her up”
“I-!”
“-On accident, then bringing her back to Ivy’s and the whole business that after you went to the trouble of fixing her data bug, she thought you had feelings for her, she obviously needs you to see that she’s more than something to be protected. Lara wants you to see her as her equal.”
“But I’m an administrator! She’s a player and I have been playing The World since Fragment. I hardly think anyone could be equal.”
“Obviously. I just think you’re jealous.”
Balmung jumped up, “Jealous?! Of what?”
“You defeated The One Sin. She’s off to defeat The One Sin. You’re a powerful Blademaster. She’s a powerful Blademaster. You obviously don’t want to share your fame and title with anyone else!”
“Yeah, cause no one’s tried to be me before.” Balmung remarked sarcastically.
“Maybe you’re afraid that she’d succeed” Wizeman replied, taking a sip of tea, “As if we need another one of you in The World”
“Hey!”
“Well, it’s true. The whole game is about being a great hero on great quests and no one besides the .hackers have made it anywhere close to that. Now the BBS is flooded with rumors about the next Descendant of Fianna and you have to be the one to stop her?”
“She’s going to be disappointed by one thing or another”
“Then let her take this on, let her find defeat in her goal, not in someone bent on crushing her dreams”
“No! If she’s setting out at 3, I’m meeting her at the gates to stop her and her idiotic party in their tracks! I don’t care what you think, Lara cannot defeat The One Sin!”

.login 2// The Two Blademasters

“Is this about Orca?” Wiseman asked.
“What do you mean?”
“He hasn’t been on for a year and a half. I think you’re worried she’s going to replace him as a Descendant of Fianna.”
“You know nothing about me.” Balmung replied coldly, standing and leaving the café
“I know more than you think” Wiseman said after him, knowing he wasn’t listening anyway.

She threw open the door to her home, ushering in the group of PC’s around the large, wooden table covered in various papers and maps.
“Alright, you guys, we’re heading to The One Sin in fifteen minutes!” Lara shouted in a commanding voice at one side of the round table, “Form up your parties! Party one is Isaye, A-20 and Keelie. Party Two: Delia, Lydia and Cecelia! Party Three: Desdemona, Ophelia and Mercutio! Party Four is anyone brought along or whoever wants to party up with the jerk of an admin who wanted to come. Remember the rules, until we reach the mountain, only in Talk mode! Keelie, Lydia and Ophelia are on lyrics if not everyone in your party know the words!” she felt powerful, she felt in charge and she felt so proud. Her friends were all here to back her and Khiro up, and they were gonna go in singing.
Khiro reached under the sheaf of papers littering the tabletop and came up with a huge chart blotted with numbers, letters various values, points, anything they needed to know about the area. No one noticed Lara slip out. “This is the map of Sickened, Imprisoned, Fallen Angel. Now, the Field looks huge but it’s actually very narrow. There is no background music which we’ve taken care of and there are huge monsters that can easily take out any player of any type. To make sure we will make it, each party has a Wavemaster for healing and a pack with various healing potions. We have to make sure Lara and me are at full-health to take on Zawan Shin”
“What are we waiting for?” Lara asked, appearing at last in her ‘Winter Ops’ outfit. She had to trade her skimpy top for a long-sleeved white blouse anchored with black wristbands under the cuffs and a bright red sweater vest for warmth. It was going to be one long, cold day. “Let’s go!”

-::_._::-
It was desolate. Cold and desolate. The sky hung with a thick alabaster that seemed oppressive on Lara’s shoulders as the heavy covering of snow on the ground was tossed in her face by a chilling, killing howling wind.
She looked out to her party, still smiling as they all gated in. She was ready. Raising her blade, The Albatross she let out her war-cry,
“To the One Sin!” which was met with cheers and whoops and happiness. She laughed and kept her sword aloft to the snowy sky.
There was no background music. Lara knew this. So she went in singing with her party,
“Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don’t care, I’m still free
You can’t take the sky from-”
TING!
Out of nowhere, a second blade met hers in air. She was so shocked at this that she let her sword tip be pushed down by his.
“BALMUNG OF THE AZURE SKY!” at least three girls chorused at once.
“What are you doing?” she demanded, throwing him off her blade with both hands at the hilt.
“Stopping you” he stated simply, “You can’t do this, Lara. You can’t defeat The One Sin”
“Says who?”
“I know it, Lara. The One Sin is bigger, and stronger and has more HP than you ever imagined. You won’t be able to defeat it.”
“I don’t care how big and strong it may be. Khiro and I are going to take down The One Sin and nothing you can say will stop me.”
“Hmmph, I thought you’d say as much” he told her, getting into a fighting stance, “How about if we go around then, shall we? Blademaster to blademaster. I dare you to strike me once and I’ll let you pass”
Isaye, obviously displeased walked up to him with her hands on her hips, “Is that all?” she asked, using some unknown command to give him a firm slap upside the head, “Administrator or not, you don’t treat my friend that way” she informed him, “Now let us pass”
Lara couldn’t help but laugh, Isaye was the best and always looking out for her.
“Clever, I’ll give you that. But will cleverness save you here, Lara?” Balmung asked, lunging towards her.
She met his blade in time which made a distinctive PIIIING! After that was a series of quick parries, all met and all matched and countered the metal clinking as they went. Parry, parry turn and thrust, it was all a pattern and all a rhythm. Lara took a wide crescent sweep met at its zenith, sliding past the opponent blade to make a mirroring sweep also caught. But what her opponent didn’t see was the deep, stabbing thrust towards his shiny armor but he leaped to the side not a moment too soon.
“Why are you doing this, Lara? Why are you so bent to beat The One Sin? There are much easier events that you can clear for fame”
“I don’t want fame!” she growled fiercely, their swords locked.
Their blades crossed as she pressed her sword against his will with all the force she had.
“I’m tired of living in the shadow of a hero, Balmung!” she growled, reluctantly relinquishing her force. “It’s not like-” ting! “You can be-” ting! “A great painter when you’re against the greats like-” ting! “Picasso and-” ting! “Van Goh! With millions of players in The World-” ting! “It’s hard enough! I still have to compete-” ting! “With the likes of you!” ting! “I want to fight!” ting! “I want to be a hero!” ting! “I’m going to take on The One Sin. And you-” TING! “Can’t-” PING! “STOP ME!” CRACK!
The hilt of her sword flew from her hand, landing in the snow beside the other half of her blade. And she just stood and stared.
He didn’t take her down, he didn’t PK her, all he was was concerned. “Lara…? Lara, are you-?”
“You killed the Albatross” she told him with a deep and scary voice that seemed like there was more than one person behind the sound.
She glared at him with eyes of flashing scarlet as clouds of spirit seemed to gather around her. She paled, her skin even fairer with some unknown ethereal glow, her flamboyant orange hair fading to alabaster white. Even more of these cloudy white shades gathered around and beyond her hands until she was holding the shaft of a blue-white Heavy Axe that almost melted into the background of ice and snow.
She swung, not a wild swing, but a strong, focused, powerful swing slicing silence and taking a surprising amount of effort to dodge. She swung again, a movement of eerie grace backed by brute strength and controlled by pure rhythm. At last she seemed to stop as she grabbed the shaft in a fanciful sweep but it was not over yet.
Swirling ghosts surrounded the axe blade, leaving it the flashing silver of a pole-arm glaive. It shone brightly in the pure white of the Area sweeping across the snow-covered ground like a deadly broom. Sweeps and turns, he could all but dodge her sharp weapon, not even daring to counter or waste precious moments returning the strike. Sweep, turn, sweep, shing! The blade swept past… too close…
Again she took the weapon with both hands at the shaft but this time her grip tightened and with a scary lack of effort snapped it in half. The two halves ghosted to two twisted, pointed daggers. Quick as a true twin-blade class she danced with two deadly daggers, grace and speed seemed to be truly hers. He couldn't find her and couldn't miss her. Slowly his defenses wore away to her attacks. One doge too late… and one hit point was shaved off. That was her test. One strike. But it did not end.
It was almost as if with that one failed evasion Lara or what was controlling Lara was thrown into a vicious fury as two blades joined to a two-handed Heavy Blade that now sung wildly, swung drunkenly with as much force as possible throwing the thick steel crashing and bashing through the barren snow wilderness without rhyme or reason or rhythm. Only a moment did she wield a Heavy Blade until…
The Albatross returned. The final battle. This was Lara's weapon. Stronger than the Heavy Axe she held and cleaner than the glaive Long Arm she slashed on her own power without Wave or Skill just pure swordsmanship. Blademaster to Blademaster. He could catch her now. She came down vertically but a simple diagonal slash pushed her dangerous steel away. She took a shuffle back. She used the momentum to come back in a crescent but it was met just before it peaked. She slid a bit backwards without being followed. She shuffled back, took a step back. He wondered what she was doing. Realized too late as she gripped the hilt with both hands and charged.
It was as if her blade were truly some kind of ghost, passing through plate armor as if it were made of only air.
She fell to the snow with a soft thud and her eyes flashed back to violet.

"God," she whispered, balling her fists as she stared down the snow, "I hate it when that happens"
"Lara! Lara!" Isaye shouted, her whole party rushing to her side, "Wow, girl, you really rocked!"
"Did I?"
"Oh, hell yeah! You totally opened a can of wh00p@$$ on that guy and he couldn't even counter the shit you were throwin'!"
Lara smirked. She probably just gave the angel-knight a run for his money. She stood and picked up the other half of her sword gingerly and dropped it into the sheath at her hip, the half with the hilt on top of it.
“Lara, he’s right, we can’t do this” Khiro told her, planting a hand on her shoulder
She spun to face him, “What are you talking about? Of course we can! We’ve been planning this for months!”
“We’re in over our heads. So many people have tried this and failed, what makes us so different?”
“Because we’re us. And we can handle this.”
“We hardly made it this far, Lara and as far as I can see, we’re not even near The One Sin. I don’t think we’re about to get there”
“So you just want to give up? Is that it?”
“I think we should stop while we’re ahead”
“Give me the items”
“What?”
“Give me the items we got for this quest. There are two other people here that could be my second and if they don’t want to go on either, I’ll do it alone”
“Lara, if you go alone-”
“No one will resurrect me if I get killed, I know” she turned to her party, “If you’re with him, you can leave too. I don’t care. If you think we’re not about to make it, if you believe we’ll never defeat The One Sin, do me a favor and get out”
Bring rings of light descended on her party, everyone except for Lara and Balmung who stood in the snowstorm in silence. Lara was alone. She slung the pack of items, revive potions and healing items over her shoulder, facing the storm head-on, still singing,
“Take my love
Take my land
Take me where I cannot stand…”
“You’re going on by yourself?” Balmung asked in disbelief
“Does it look like I’m about to give up?”
“Lara, you have no second to revive you, your entire party left you and your sword is snapped in half. Are you sure you really want to fight on?”
“The Albatross is fine. If I keep it in the sheath until I reach the mountain it will repair itself”
“What if you get attacked?”
“I have Nevermore with me”
“And you won’t take a second?”
“I can hold my own”
“Are you sure?”
“There’s no one else here”
“You know, I-”
“Already defeated The One Sin. I don’t need you, Balmung.”
He smiled, as if he knew something or was reminded of something and it was amusing, “Then mind if I follow you and watch?”
“No. You’re staying and watching this” she growled fiercely, as if she could really tell him what to do before continuing on through the snowstorm, singing even louder,
“Well, everyone’s got a reason.
To say…”
“Put the past away” Balmung sang back.
Lara blushed, knowing it wasn’t just a coincidence that he said that line. Put the past away. The past hurt and it’d been difficult to even get this far, but she had her boyfriend, Khiro with her… well, maybe he was an ex now, he left her in the middle of a snowstorm. Put the past away. Standing in the middle of nowhere in a snowstorm with the one advocate for why men are jerks.
“You know Third Eye Blind?” she asked
“Just that song, it’s on the radio all the time”
“Yeah.
Maybe today. You can put the past away”
There was a roar to her left which startled her a moment, quickly unsheathing Nevermore from her backstrap.
“Does this sword have a sub-routine too?” Balmung asked
“Nevermore? Only if it gets near a character named ‘Lenore’ or ‘Raven’”
“God, that must be kind of annoying. Has it ever gone off?”
“Once. There was a player named Ravena and it wouldn’t stop shouting ‘Nevermore!’ very, very loudly until I told everyone it ‘was the wind and nothing more’. I think a player actually reported me. The Cobalt Knights questioned me the next day”
"Huh. That's interesting"
There was a louder roar. It was closer.
"Lara!"
Nevermore smashed into something unrecognizable in the wind tossing snow everywhere.
"I'm not an idiot, you know!" she shouted as her obsidian sword slammed into the dark shade again and again. Soon enough its HP was nothing.
Balmung gave no reply, he knew she wasn't.
And she ran. Not because she was frightened of the monsters or because she was impatient or because she wanted to distance herself from Azure Sky. No, Lara ran because she wanted to. The wind whipped through her short hair and shivered down her spine as snow and ice and wet rushed through her, reminding her numb sensation that there was still feeling in her. It was unexplainable, usually she was some kind of lazy bum and hated or skipped Gym Class but it made her happy just to run and run and run until she felt like she was flying. The mountain approached like a giant icicle shoved up through the ground spiraled by dangerous icy stairs. Atop the jagged pillar of arctic despair stood its master, a being of spectrum death. The One Sin.
"There it is" she whispered on air to herself.
"Are you ready?" Balmung asked one last time
"I have been" she replied and then sped ahead to the foot of the mountain.
She took one deep breath and ascended to what she hoped was victory awaiting. All she could do was hope. Step follows step. Step follows step.
You can do this. You can do this! She reminded herself, You fought your way here against the greatest player of The World to be here, no event no mater how rare can stop you!
And she was at the top. Here we go. No stopping now. No turning back. This. Was. It.
One more step. And she could see what she was up against.
It was huge, huger than huge, one massive, giant… thing. It was called a “Spectrum Dragon” but that was a sort of an ironic understatement. “Spectrum Dragon” was meant to be some sort of scaly, winged kind of giant lizard that can breathe fire, like in fairy tales but this thing had the wings of mutilated insects, iridescent and torn like hauntingly beautiful butterfly wings, ripped of their original owner and stretched too-tight over claws of pointed bone and twisted tendon. Grotesque and strangely captivating, the “Spectrum Dragon” could only be called by one name. The One Sin.
“Oh. Crap.” Lara uttered, staring in disbelief and fear, shivering all the while in the ice and cold. It’s not too late to give in she reminded herself, It’s not too late to give up. But no. She clawed her way through an empty void unguided and buffeted by a snowstorm the size of a hurricane, facing and defeating the one greatest player of The World, an admin who faced her with this very defeat, then when offered the very choice she contemplated, traveled on alone through wind and snow and cold. No giving in. No giving up. Lara was going to earn her wings or die trying.
She stood, straight, tall and proud, raising the tip of her blade from the layers of snow. This thing was not about to bring her down already. Remembering back to those old knight movies and the heroes that defended fabled nations from mythical beasts and dragons… much like how she stood now, sheathing Nevermore and showing her true blade, lifting it into the heart of the pure, white sky
“Beast, I am Kailaralae of The Albatross and I have come to vanquish you” she announced to the still thing, “Prepare to meet your fate”
The One Sin does not attack until you do. That was the one key thing the BBS told her. Lara had time to plan her attack. Water.
“Rue Slash!” she swung a Level 1 attack with minimal effort, little water and using almost no Skill Points in the process
And it was met with fire. Lara, a Scorching Wind wave was no unused to the familiar feel of the flame but now, with the whole of the Spectrum Dragon bearing over her and surrounding her in hot, searing heat she was frightened. Terrified even. It came as a shock and almost a reflex, she shouted an inaudible word for a small shield.
She was safe. For now.
But Lara didn't want to be safe. This was the end of it, the end of it all. She had to give it everything she had.
"PhaRue Revolver!" Like its name, a machine gun of water shot from her blade as she lunged forward and was met immediately with an equal excess of flame met her. Now she stood her ground. Now she was ready. She leapt and invoked the words of the blade,
"Merrows Pha Crack!" and took down a handful of HP. But against this thing of 100,000 points, taking off 50 was nothing.
"Nice of you to show up, Hokuto" Balmung remarked, looking up from the foot of the mountain
"Good to see you too, Azure Sky" the girl next to him remarked, tipping the brim of her oversized white witch hat.
Anywhere else, this Wavemaster wearing only a strapless white bikini top and pleated miniskirt would look the part in The World, but here, again in the middle of an arctic snowstorm the girl looked out-of-place.
"By the way" she mentioned, "I hope you don't mind that I brought a friend along"
"Don't tell me you dragged that Albireo into this!" he moaned
"No, he didn't want to come. I know you won't mind. He'll be along in a few minutes, he's… catching up with some old friends right now"
"GiGan Slash!" a reply, "PhaGan Revolver!"
"So, who is this friend of yours?"
"Oh, I think you two have met" Hokuto replied coyly
"RaJuk Slash!" dodge, roll out of the way of the flames, "OrRue Crack!"
"Sorry I'm late" a voice apologized between them. A familiar… unforgettable voice. "It's been a long time, Balmung of the Azure Sky"
Balmung's eyes widened beyond disbelief to utter astonishment, "Orca?!"
"Balmung…"
"What are you-? I thought you left-!"
"I heard rumors that yet another Blademaster was going after the title of Descendant of Fianna and thought I ought to give it a look. Not that no one's tried before" Orca of the Azure Sea remarked, "Thankfully I have good connections to let me know that they were all true"
It was as if Orca had never changed and never left The World with Balmung drowning all of the responsibility and all the stifling fame. They could have been Administrators together. They could have been masters of The World. But the lone Descendant of Fianna was just that. Alone.
Lara was down but definitely not out. She grabbed from her shoulder pack a basic healing potion, it was all she needed and she could deal with it. She could deal with it… but God did it hurt like hell? She finished the last sip of the thing and clutched her side, growling with the pain and ferocity.
"It's not like you to be at a loss for words"
"It's just… been so long…"
"I know. Someone told me you're an Administrator now."
"Yes. I work for CC Corp now in their Administration floor"
"With the enemy now?"
Balmung bristled, "You aren't one to judge"
"Am I, am I really?"
Lara screamed with all her voice in the pain of the Sin's tail slashing through her. "F! YOU!" she roared before leaping again into the battle.
"What just happened?" Balmung asked in surprise
"I think she got hit" Orca replied
"But she'd been hit by this before, it couldn't have been the shock of the hit. It was like-”
"She was in pain or something"
"Well, boys" Hokuto said, leaning her elbows on the Descendants' shoulders, "Some people take the game and roleplay seriously. I remember two Azure Blademasters who wouldn't stop calling me 'milady' no matter what I said"
"Milady, this was different" Balmung told her
"It was timed perfectly. And you just don't roleplay to that extreme, milady" Orca insisted
"You wouldn't believe what I've seen" she argued
"It just seemed too… real" Orca remarked a little wistfully
She was fighting "the good fight". The one to end her captivity and stop her from being trapped in this World. She loved The World and all it had in it, the people, the events, the dungeons, everything but still it felt like an ornate golden cage that she wanted to be open. She would return by her own accord. Checked her Skill points. Nothing. Checked her HP. 40. The One Sin? Well over 9000. Why was this taking so long? If she didn't try it solo… maybe this would have gone faster. It just hurt so bad, battered, tattered and torn. Lara couldn't go on. If she'd let Balmung be her second- No! There was one last thing she could do. Down one last total-restore.
This was not a spell, not a move or any item by incantation. All Lara could do was screw her eyes shut, thinking of the loudest music she could muster, building rage and emotion in her chest. in out in out in out in out Louder, she turned up her mental heavy metal music, "The Feel Good Drag" by Anberlin. She had to do this, in out in out in out she had to enter her inner Wave. Her eyes flared with the passion of true fire. She had it.
Fire streamed from within her, without her, from everywhere the flames rushed like an open dam of heat willed free channeled, funneled and tunneled by a whirling tornado of wind.
The sound that came shook the speakers on Balmung's desk so they tumbled from the surface, taking down his Mr. Potato Head and Orca of the Azure Sea bobblehead, still vibrating on the office's carpet. He didn't notice. All he knew was that The One Sin doesn't attack, but return. And with a force off raw power and pure spectrum, it returned what was given
For only seconds, moments, fire wind and power collided like off-course bullet trains until, energy spent, rawness and strength of pure Spectrum overtook and enveloped her.
The beast roared, Balmung shouted for her and Lara screamed. She heard none as her suspended body fell to the ground of ice and snow.
"Lara!" Balmung screamed again, as if he couldn’t climb the icy stairs fast enough and still he didn't know why he was so alarmed. He knew this would happen.
But her body was still. It didn’t turn colorless like other killed PC's, it still retained its hue. No ghost ebbed from her fallen form. It was as if she wasn't actually dead. Little did anyone know what was actually going on.
"How do you know her?" Orca asked as she was lifted from the mountaintop.
"We… met when she underwent a CC Corp test of beverages with side affects and had an adverse reaction under my watch and apparently has had a thing for me ever since. I felt bad because her data became corrupted in her reaction to the tea she was testing so I personally re-edited her basic coding during the April Fools Day event because I was afraid her character data would be irreversibly destroyed"
"And so you grew attached to her." Hokuto whispered
"Maybe. I told her I didn't feel that way about her when she told me but… I'm not sure any more" he sighed for a moment "Hokuto, can you revive her?"
"I'll try" she replied quietly, drawing out a pure white wand, "Rip Maen!" she pronounced but nothing happened "Rip Maen!" she tried again. "I don't think so, my SP isn't even decreasing. It's like she was just knocked out cold or something without actually being killed"
"Is that even possible?"
"What if The One Sin is a Data Bug?" Orca mused.
Everyone went quiet
"Look, Balmung and I defeated this thing once and we thought it was gone for good. Now, it's come back and seems almost undefeatable and somehow took out a PC without making a kill and unable to revive."
"So you're saying" Balmung started, his mind boggled at just mulling over the thought, "That Morganna has returned? That after all of our hard work, there's still more to do? That so much of our time and effort has been a waste?"
"Things can be hidden in plain sight. Maybe The One Sin was a data bug from the beginning."
Suddenly she gasped, a deep and drinking gasp, coughing and sputtering back to life, clutching at her chest in an effort to breathe.
"Milady!" Orca shouted
"She's okay!" Hokuto announced
Balmung said nothing
"Cold… so cold…" she whispered, shuddering. Suddenly she stopped moving, "It's still there, isn't it?"
"It won't attack until you do, milady" Orca assured her.
"Good." Lara replied, tumbling ungainly from the arms of Balmung of the Azure Sky, "You're gonna want to get out of the way" she told them all
"You can't really be going after it again, can you?" Hokuto asked
"If you don't want to get hurt, get out of the way" was all Lara told her.
Hokuto nodded softly and made her way down the spindly steps with half-naked Green Guy.
Balmung however still stood there and planted a hand on her shoulder, "You don't have to do this, you know" he said
She brushed his hand off, "You have no idea how much I do. Go."
Now she stood, breathing heavily, in front of the beast one last time, staring it down with her gleaming violet eyes and letting what was left of The One Sin meet her blade.
