For the longest time, I had my taskbar set on the bottom of the screen like everyone else, but hated it when there were so many applications that one had to scroll through them or merged together into one application bar. So, for shits and giggles, I took the taskbar and placed it to the right side of my screen, and I haven't looked back since. It's pretty damn awesome. I can see the time, of course, but the icons in the system tray are two to a row, the start button's just the window logo, and I can see more applications on my bar that what I could've gotten before, where at some point things got annoying. Sure, sometimes I have several windows of the same application running, so I may cycle through them until I get the window I want, but for some reason, I like this layout. Even better is that there's a bit more vertical space than usual, and with a widescreen monitor, it kind of helps with maximum viewing area, thus utilizing the most of my monitor.

But enough of me blathering. What have you?

I put it on the bottom of the screen I make it double height though, so that the buttons don't compress when I have lots of windows open (which is frequently the case).

I tried putting it on the right side of the screen before although I had an extremely hard time getting used to it. It's hard to change after having it at the bottom of my screen for so long .

First I had it at the bottom ...

Then sometime in 2003, I decided to move it to the right, which definitely works better for multitasking More task buttons can fit, they're closer to each other, Quick Launch and the tray don't take up so much space ... (mine is about 100 pixels wide, so it fits 5-6 icons per row)

When I got my second screen, I moved the taskbar to the right side on the left screen, and later left side on the right (either way could be considered the middle of the desktop space), so I don't have to move the mouse about 3000 pixels (from the opposite side) to reach it

Still the bottom for me.

I can't stand having it anywhere else. Plus, horizontal space isn't as plentiful on 1152x864...

VIDEO IS BLUE AND BLUE ON THE THING

On the bottom... In other computers however I tend keep it hidden. Alt+tab is easier and I don't need a clock on the corner.

One-row, bottom. Sitters don't exactly sit well on a sideways taskbar. Not only that, but I'm just so used to it by now.

Bottom for me. I don't really like changing from default settings.

I had it at the bottom for 5 years before switching, still got used to it before long ... this was also at 1152x864 (but I had moved up from 1024x768 for that)

Speaking of screen resolutions, vertical taskbars fit well in widescreen (although they don't get more space), or at least make the rest closer to the old 4:3

I keep it at the top. putting it on the sides just does not work well with a 4:3 monitor.

Mine stays on the bottom. I can't stand it being in the right side, left side, or top side of my monitor. I've tried it, but it just bothers me to much.

I keep the taskbar on the bottom. It's the default; it works fine for me I guess.

Same with the Dock on OS X, I don't like it being on the right or the left (especially with dual displays.)

I had my taskbar at the top of my screen from late October 2007 until the middle of August of this year, which was when I installed Windows 7 Professional x64 over my Vista Home Premium x64 (Thanks MSDNAA!)

It just seems way better to have it at the bottom of the screen now in 7...

Bottom of the screen. Sure, I'd have enough room to have it on one of the sides, but I've gotten so used to having it at the bottom, that I don't want to change it.

I did have it at the right side for one of my computers, though it's starting to have bad problems with programs.

Shiny new layout!
----------------------------------------------------

Huh.

Im the only one who keeps his taskbar over...

<<<<<< THEEEEEERE

Vertical windows 7 taskbar works very, very well in my opinion

Not to mention with two monitors, it helps having it there.

I honestly don't understand the left/right docks I see people using when I run across a Mac user at college. I can't have it anywhere but the bottom.

People have actually been rather puzzled by my netbook's setup (Aero via TrueTransparency since I'm running XP, and a dock via RocketDock... and there's CleanGlass Black as a theme where Aero doesn't pick up.). Someone actually described it as a child of a Mac and a Vista PC.

I just have it on the bottom. 1440x900 = more room down there anyways.
