With some videos, the Youtube player is normal; but with other videos, it's all weird Wondering if some of you noticed that too, or if it's just me.

More particularly, it isn't as smooth as normally. It lacks the smooth UI animations. It also lacks the small balloon that shows the position in seconds when the cursor flies over the progress bar. Changing the position manually sometimes stops playback. It lacks a button in the bottom-right corner. And the context menu has two added options, namely, 'Show video info' and 'Copy debug info'.

I'm wondering if this is just a new 'beta' version of the player, or a virus/trojan/... which tries to reproduce the original player but gets into your computer or takes control over your webcam or something...

You do know you can change the youtube player code when you embed videos, right?

You can add options such as those or not.

Hell you can make the whole player invisible and auto playing. (see my profile.)

Maybe I forgot to precise it but... I was talking about the original player, which shows on Youtube pages. Not embedded players.

Yeah, I've been getting this lately too. Also, clicking on the video area after the video has stopped doesn't restart it. It works while paused though.

Quick test to see if it'll work with embeds as well:

That's what makes me believe it's some form of a virus.
The two added menu items make me believe it's a beta; however, if it was a beta, it would be on every page atleast, wouldn't it?

Edit: I just got an idea: if it was a virus, its purpose could be to steal passwords so the hacker could hack into people's accounts happily I don't have an account

It's not a virus. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.1 and I see the behavior listed in the first post as well, and it does not also apply to all videos.

As I already mentioned, it could be a virus that steals your Youtube password, therefore it wouldn't depend on your OS...

But I think I'm just too paranoid. It is really unlikely.

It looks like it's some sort of legacy YT player. I noticed it too, some movies had a different player, but I never thought much of it, because those older videos often don't have annotations, or ads or anything.

One thing I've noticed is that you can't pause videos as they are initially loading. On my super slow youtube connection here, I would normally pause a video as it's pre-loading and come back to it later. Now I have to wait about a minute for it to pre-load and then pause it. Sort of annoying to be honest.
