Actually, Michigan schools don't seem to ever close for Columbus Day

They did in New Jersey and New York.

I don't know much about Canadian Thanksgiving, but I know about the US Thanksgiving in late November. Basically, the early American settlers were thankful that the natives (often called "Indians" for some strange reason) gave them food and such, so they held a celebration. Then, the settlers went on to exterminate the native cultures. Some thanks they got

Ours is pretty much just to give thanks.

I think all the Thanksgiving-related cartoons were aired in the morning here... and we wouldn't be showing anything like The Mouse on the Mayflower.

I spent my Thanksgiving doing homework.

I did get to enjoy my weekend home though, minus getting a chest cold.

It was a very balanced weekend between good and crappy.

That is ironic.

Though it doesn't feel like much free time for me, though.

Now that I think about it, I never new Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving at this time. I'm not really aware about Canadian holidays.
