1. PSU gets fried by lightning.
2. Defective CPU or something keeps fucking up programs at random. (Thank you, HP.)
3. Power failure during BitTorrent download kills my Windows partition.
4. Wireless mice don't work in my room, and the cords on my stuff always break.
5. About a zillion random little glitches.

1. PSU gets fried by nothing.
2. Old Gateway gets fried by lightning.
3. Hard drive got ESD'ed.
4. Wireless mouse double clicking, resulting in the mouse going across my room.
5. Nothing comes to mind except the BSoD

1. Windows 98 crashes and destroys some files on a DoubleSpace compressed partition.
2. A shop sells me a motherboard that says "development version -- not for production use" in its BIOS messages, and which I use as a server, and which crashes every time it is attempted to utilize fully for more than a few minutes -- supposedly defect memory I/O.
3. Watching TV on a dual processor machine (2*P3 450MHz) suddenly halts everything, forcing a reboot.
4. Computer does not save time & date in CMOS, forcing DOS to interactively ask for them every time it is started up. Though this is not an error, it's a feature. (Tandy 1000)
NaN. N/A

alt tags are dumb
In no order:
1) CMOS battery dead, making the time stop when the computer is on and start while it runs (i.e. turning it off at 12:22 will make it turn on at 12:22 even if hours have passed) -- old computer that's long dead
2) Explorer's task buttons changing size on computer lock/unlock (this laptop)
3) Random "OS Not Found" errors (old computer, replaced HDD)
4) Constant registry crashes, forcing it to revet to a much older version even if I take a backup and forcing all drivers to be reinstalled etc (even if ther ewas no actual registry problem) - old 300 MHz computer

5) Far and away the most annoying, shift/ctrl/alt/other keys not "letting go", causing their effects to persist for a long time -- this laptop

1) Can't open any programs, it just places a shortcut to that program on the desktop instead
2) Hard drive going in and out without warning or apparent reason (it did eventually die altogether)
3) Windows folder mysteriously disappearing
4) Computer randomly destroys wireless network whenever on
5) Monitor displays all colors too dark even on maximum brightness settings (current monitor)

1: Compaq(UGH) dies for no apparent reason, probably power supply or something, it kept turning off randomly. Of course this is before I knew much about computers.
2: Cannot clean dust out of computer because family refuses to listen to me when I say vacuuming in it will kill it, dust causes overheating and it dies. (coincidentally, they now listen to me, and deny ever saying that vacuuming it was safe)
3: Updating my graphics drivers -> huge display issues, system restore actually proved useful.
4: Norton(I have to use it, I'd rather use something else), 'freezes' after the computer has been on for so long, it allows already-cleared programs to acess the internet, but freezes when I try to open it or if I try to use a new internet-using program.
5: Annoying Dell Support and this updater that updates nothing but itself.

And now for a real list...

1. Explorer dies whenever I mouse over an SPC. So does Winamp.
2. My goddamn mouse doesn't register that I'm holding down the left mouse button. It thinks I'm clickliftclickliftclickliftadinfinitum.
3. Every goddamn headphones set I've ever owned has been destroyed in one way or another. Cats, twisting, RadioShack, etc.
4. Keys not registering they've been lifted, much like Xk's problem
5. Power failures.

1) Auto-arrange (even when I turn the goddamned thing off)
2) Lag lag and more lag
4) Programs eating more and more RAM as they run (I'm looking at you, Warcraft3 >:)

I think I've found my number 5. I'll just be minding my own business, and then *WHOOSH* The Dell Support thing pops up out of nowhere like the attention whore it is.

Let's see...

In approximate order of date, starting with most recent:

) Compaq PSU refuses to work unless it's plugged into the wall first, then plugged into the motherboard
) Sevral computers die suddenly when I decide to make them more useful
) Ancient Am386 (the AMD 80386) with a dead battery. Set date, time, hard disk type, display type, floppy disk type, boot order, and memory test whenever it's been off for more than about 24 hours. (Upside: Working turbo button and speed display!)
) Nvidia video card refuses to display DVDs properly with updated drivers
) Combo DVD/CD-RW drive can't read CD-Rs
) Fried BIOS. (Or maybe it's the motherboard?)
) Loose hard disk cable during reformat
) And numerous other things, mostly involving wires.

Talks a lot

180
1. HDD DIES. -- Old 286. It was really fucked up.
2. DOS DIES. -- Old 386. It had some damn cool shit on it though
3. AOL DIES. -- 1999-2004 owned 386. Was pretty much the peak of my un-laziness.
4. Registry failure. -- Older Win95 comp, which won't turn on now. I can, perhaps, grab the HDD and swipe the files off it onto my newly built computer, however.
5. HDD DIES. -- Current desktop comp, back in 2004. Lost some of my greatest ZC quests ever, but... We got it working, and kickass again. I also lost some of my earliest logs ever, from when I used the AOL screenname 'sktbrdr949' to talk to people.
6. BSOD BSOD BSOD BSOD BSOD BSOD BSOD BSOD ad infinitum -- Laptop eventually shit itself due to overheating, whenever I started it up. Lost tons more neat shit, but obviously, it's working now.
7. Laptop overheating. -- My only persistent problem now. Otherwise, the thing is a godsend.

So I've had bad luck with hard disks. Oh well, it could always be worse, like the whole thing exploding literally. (in before EXPLODING LAPTOPS)

Too lazy, but I'll just mention that I've lost a grand total of one motherboard, one soundcard, three hard drives, two monitors, one video card, two keyboards, and two mice on my old one (some of it do to continuous usage.)

The most recent being (surprise) a motherboard failure. This is all from one machine, too.

Simplicity v1.1
On this comp:

1) BAD POOL CALLER ERRORS - Commonplace error every so often. Subsided somewhat after I pumped this piece of crap up to 384MB RAM.
2) APP ERROR 'MEMORY NOT READ' - Probably another RAM error. Constantly happens on closing certain apps.
3) INCORRECT RAM MAXIMUM ONBOARD - 384 is all this will take when it should take 512. Anything else will yield 102-Motherboard errors or it will flat out not boot whatsoever.

Those are consistent problems, hence why I'm getting a new computer eventually.

Ones I can remember happening in the past from most recent:
1) Processor fan failure (second one, this one lasted five years)
2) Consistent failures with Windows 2000 OS requiring a reinstall. Count: 5.
3) WD 60GB hard drive failure within a year of purchasing the comp (not a WD fan...too bad Maxtor got bought out by Seagate)
4) Processor fan failure (first - within first six months of purchase it died)
5) Hard drive magnetized. Thanks, sister, for showing me what you can do to an open box. Oh well, at least it was fixable by a flat reformat (which was hell due to starting with FAT then getting FAT32 and reformatting twice due to Win95/98 crap).
