Like BMF said, it's because of a phishing scam, so your password was only leaked if you fell for the trick. Of course, it's wise to change your password every now and then to keep your account safe.

Oh Lord, I don't think I've ever really changed any of my passwords. One of these days I really should change them all to different things. And maybe keep a log somewhere deep in some recess of some safe place of the passwords.

There's a program called KeePass which lets you store a bunch of password and lock them with a master password.

We weren't even testing for that.

I usually don't bother with changing passwords, it's too much trouble for me to be worth it.

Though the ISP-given mail account has an advantage: since it lets people only log on from their own Internet connection, it's impossible to hack. (That's also why you don't need a password at all to log in there)

Kassad: A disadvantage would be the inability to access the E-mail account from school/work/vacation. Another reason I prefer Web mail.

I don't like those damn security questions It's like "If you don't have my password, you can still access my account using random personal info I've probably posted at Jul"

I've always tried to pick at least decent passwords, but in the old days I'd repeat them a lot. Still, it's better than stuff like "12345" and "hihihi" and "admin" and even "password"

Some people are dumb enough to fall for these things.

There was a fake Capital One e-mail sent a few months back stating that you had won a free trip to the Caribbean or something along those lines... all you needed to do was verify your card number and your social security number.

...Note that those two pieces of information = account takeover.

I had a science teacher who fell for one of those flashing ad banners in class He expected us to give him our E-mail addresses! We told him that it was a scam, and then he got zillions of spam E-mails to his school account

I use my own server to send email. Even then, I had to change the password eight zillion times just recently, so tough luck to anyone going after that.

I have to change the password to my school account a lot, and I don't understand why. It's not our E-mail password, or our Blackboard password, or the password that lets us add and drop classes. Basically, all the password allows is access to the public computers and printers.

I've been alternating between four different passwords. It used to be two, but then I had to add another two into the mix.

I just have two or three different passwords I alternate between. Works pretty well.

I used to use the same password a lot, but since a bunch of hackings and such a few years ago, I started using a different password for most or all Web sites

OK, will people please stop using sequences of consecutive digits as passwords?

I notice a lot of Spanish-looking names on there.

Good to know that I didn't see my password on there. Or my other not-as-common password. (Why do I feel like having people guess my password now)

Is it "password"?

I used to use normal English words or in-jokes spelled backwards as passwords sometimes

Hell no. For a hint, I don't use numbers in my passwords. Yet. If I make a Password #4, I just might. (Get it? Password #4, meaning that I've come up with three commonuse passwords.)
