When we got a gamecube a while the package was messed up, but it was nothing like the system. The coners were messed up, and it had scratches, but I played anyway. Then the Zelda Collectors edition and Luigi's mansion would freeze a lot. Then It couldn't read the disks at all. I sent it to nintendo, who fixed it for half as much as I bought if for, and sent a sheet telling proper care for fture use.
Also, one of my brothers and I both got a Nintendo DS when they first came out. The hinge on wis broke, and he sent it back for a new one, for half price, with another proper care thing. Mine broke off further than his did, and I still have it. (I can't get a picture right now, but I'll try.)
Have you bough a game system with defects, noticable either at the time you got it or long after? Or am I the only person to fall victim of bad systems?
Our NES started acting screwy in 1995 or so, and we went through like 4 NESes that all also worked horribly Grey screen, power light flashing, evenly-spaced vertical lines, etc.
My NES died in 2000, but it ran fine for a good dozen years (still got a working Master System, SNES, Genesis, N64, Gamecube, Wii, PlayStation 2 and 3, and Nintendo DS) ... I've also had plugs going loose or breaking, but none of this was production defects
I have GBA and GBC games that lost memory battery power, and refuse to remember things. I also had a gameshark that mysteriously quit working, due to a freak glitch that I don't know how it really happened. Now it says the game selected is Norton, and it crashes upon trying to select codes. And once my brother broke a control stick on a N64 controller when he accidentally stepped on it. And countless computer problems my family has had in the past would fill up 2 pages in this thread.

I was a victim of the DISC READ ERROR drive for the first PS2 systems. Leaving me without a gaming console for two years.
It sucked. But then again it was good for me. I havea huge back yard. And I always had epic adventures (Wild imagination) after school. So it was not that big of a deal.
I have a few friends personally who were effected with the RROD, and I always get people coming over playing my PS3. It's kinda funny.

I had the grey screen problem too with one NES, but my parents never bothered to replace it. This was back when I was, like, 6. My parents just decided to go ahead and buy an N64 instead
My SNES died not long after the NES... I think what happened was the part where the RCA plug goes stopped working... I dunno if it'd been repairable or not. It's really too late to dwell on it now though. My parents threw it out when we bought the N64, which really disappointed me
Other than that, I've had pretty good luck with game systems. I mean, sure, I've had two 360s completely fail on me so far, but considering the 360's apparently ridiculous failure rate, that's not really surprising.

Three DSes with broken hinges. Each of these is at various levels of top-screen decay; the two Lites have very few problems, while the original DS is at the point where all that displays on the top screen is random colored lines.
The only system that has ever failed on me was my original DS. For some reason after about 4 years of owning it the battery would no longer charge (plugging the charger in would do nothing and even the red charging light wouldn't turn on).
My parents bought an NES back when it first came out in 1985 and it still works great. It sometimes takes a minute or two to get the games to work although that doesn't bother me .

One of my DSes broke a hinge from a drop a few years ago. It's most likely because of that, that the top screen no longer works. All it shows is a white screen. My other one has just a scratched touch screen. It makes it a bit difficult to see when I play in the light.
I currently have my old PS2 which suffers from the "Disc Read Error" problem that plagued the first systems. Luckily I was able to get a newer one that doesn't have that problem.
I also had an SNES before, but I gave it to my cousins years ago. Around 2-3 years ago, my family went to visit them and I saw that they somehow broke the power adaptor connection, rendering it unusable.

My sister's DS got it's lid magically cracked, probably due to engineering fault (it was kept extremely well, no bigger bumps or anything) and we had to replace it twice. Now one of the shoulder buttons stopped working and she got a new one...
And the new one has sound problems
As for me, I've been pretty lucky... only one scratched DS screen.

Nothing really. My ds lite got kinda worn out from use. Scratches on the touch screen, broken L button and no sound from the main speakers, only headphones. All possibly design related flaws, since I took alright care of it, I just played a lot of quakeds.
My DS have a dead pixel on the top screen. I don't mind it much as it always uses a blue color (when system is on.) Plus it does not really get in the way anyway.

My second NES had a piece of gravel in it from when its previous owner threw it out into the driveway when he was mad at his sister.
Note that the previous owner was a grown man.
But that wasn't new, so I don't think that quite counts.

No broken hinges on any of my four DS's (Two for me, two for my sister). NES has been wonky as expected, and I've replaced the pin connectors twice now. Still kind of iffy, but probably because I slapped some solder on the points on the board possibly causing it to be uneven in the connection. My Wii disc drive is being iffy too as of late, but it has seen a lot of use and is a near-launch Wii. It has also seen many, many unpressed DVDs. Everything else works well. SNES, Genesis, Virtual Boy, Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, and more, all in tip top shape.
Well, there's a stuck pixel on my DS and one on my PSP as well, but they're hardly noticeable.

My battery dies faster than it used to. I think age has got to it. And I charged it so much, it probably wore out.
