And here I thought they were going to be as bad as the ones in HS. I used to pull all nighters on those...

You're having college midterms already and it isn't even October yet?

At my school, they're often pretty bad, but some teachers will have different numbers of tests instead of always a midterm halfway through Finals are mostly required by the school though

Shiny new layout!

Nah.

To be honest, college tests are pretty chill. They just take up a much larger percentage of your grade!

But yeah, just wait till finals roll around, it's kinda rofl depending on how many you have.

I've found that a lot of classes don't have a "midterm". Some will give tests periodically through the semester, one of which usually falls around midterm time, and some don't give any at all. They seem to be relatively easy for the most part, but this year one professor says that all the tests he gives will be open note.

Sure, that means he can make it a little tougher, but you still have all the information you need right there and over an hour to complete it. And it's about stuff like how a CRT works.

Yep. Every test I've taken in college so far has been underwhelming. Even finals are just a lot of noise about nothing.

Obviously, you don't go to my school

Sure, I've had easy tests, but in this most recent physics class it was all closed book/closed notes, no formula sheet, we had to memorize about 20 formulae Not famous ones like F = ma and E = mc2, either. More like s(x,t) = s0sin(kx-ωt). I remembered that, then forgot how to calculate s0, k, and ω

There was another where the class was mostly essays and other writing where we could pick pretty much any topic we wanted from several works of literature. Then, for the test we were asked much more specific questions we may not have studied

We-ell, that's kinda the baseline for physics tests, right? It would be ridiculous if they allowed you to look up formulae during the test. The point is to demonstrate mastery of the material, and unfortunately that includes some boring memorization.

And I dunno about literature tests in college because I tested out of all the lit classes required for my major. </senseless bragging>

But yeah, I'll concede the point; I go to a pretty crappy college for people who don't know anything and won't do any work, so my experiences are probably atypical.

Midterms practically don't exist at my community college. The Finals can be tough, but unlike Highschool, emphasis is put on mastery of material, rather than taking thousands of tests.

I get about the same thing here. They really downplay the tests and papers. I've only got one challenging paper this semester and it's in History so I believe that would make sense.

Your physics tests are so much different than mine.

Sure they give us the formulas, but the questions are going to bone you if you dont know what to do with them. >.>

They don't put an emphasis on a lot of tests here, which at the same time also emphasizes the tests that much more...especially when that's pretty much all you're graded on

Every class is different for midterms... some count for 10-15%, some for 25-30%. Crapshoot.

And then some teachers don't include any material from the first half of the course on the final, and some do... no consistency.

In my experience, in college the finals usually cover the whole semester, but IIRC in high school it was just whatever happened since the end of the midterm "coverage".

I remember taking some kind of test in which I realized that the correct answers were in a different font Easiest test ever?

I've had both types.

I've also heard of horror exams where incorrect multiple choice answers DEDUCT a mark from the final score. So say you have a 50-question test, you answer 35 right and get 15 wrong. 35/50 = 70%... but 35-15=20, so the final mark is 20/50 = 40%. In other words, if you don't know the answer, don't guess.

How frigging retarded is that?

I've taken some standardized tests like that One of them was like 6 points for a right answer, 2.5 for leaving the question blank, and 0 for a wrong answer. Like, why 2.5?

I don't remember that on anything other than standardized tests with filling in the bubbles though I think the SAT was like that.

I have my first big test on Friday at university.

Worth 35% of the semester, in my Linear Algebra course.

Number of hours that I attended in that course: <6 on like... I dunno 20+?

I'm screwed.

...

That would require another standardized test to explain.

That looks like the kind of crap you'd do in a physics course, really.
