You know what would have been a good idea for the holiday season?

$249 with New Super Mario Bros. Wii and 2000 Nintendo Points. Would have sold like hotcakes because it's Mario.

About time they finalized this.

Driift Mania (Konami, WiiWare, 800)
Altered Beast (Sega, Virtual Console Arcade, 1000)

Arkanoid is Arkanoid. Drift Mania is like Super Sprint or Super Off-Road and is apparently fun. Altered Beast is a ripoff.

Swords and Soldiers was pretty fun as far as I can remember. Very silly and looks like it wouldn't be very fun, but it's surprisingly addicting, even just to watch.

There's definitely some good WiiWare games out there; I haven't played You, Me, and the Cubes yet but lots of people seem to like it, and Nintendo's usually good when it comes to puzzle games. Mega Man 9 was worth it, Swords and Soldiers is really good...

Rule of thumb seems to be that the more expensive the game, the more likely it is to be good.

Look at the 500 point titles. Maybe 3-4 decent (but not great) games in the bunch, the rest are below average or crap. Plus there's My Aquarium which is just a fancy screen saver but it's always in the top 10 in downloads, so good for Hudson.

Now, on another topic...

System Menu 4.2 is out! That's the good news.

Bad news? IT DELETES THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL AND BOOTMII. If you have any homebrew on your system, DO NOT UPDATE YET. If you're thinking of adding homebrew soon, DO NOT UPDATE YET because it also blocks the Bannerbomb exploit.

They've taken the kid gloves off...

And here we thought they were kidding around. Looks like I won't be playing Trilogy any time soon on my Wii. Luckily my roommate brought his Wii as well and we did a save transfer.

Doesn't look like I'll be able to use the shop channel either for a while since I'm sure that considering 4.2 updates the channel, it's required now, not that it matters since no wifi in the dorm for the wii to connect to.

I only upgraded to 4.1 because Phantom Brave told me to.

(And because it did virtually nothing homebrew-wise.)

I think it's a 4.1 update. Regardless, I don't want to risk it yet. I'll be fine using his system. Hopefully they figure out a workaround soon because NSMBWii comes in 6 weeks and I will want to play that. And you just know it'll have an update on it. Hell, all new games seem to have updates on them now. Phantom Brave, Muramasa, Trilogy...
