So I checked my mailbox and noticed an odd mail from Microsoft...

...they told me to run a "Windows 7 Launch Party" from 22 through 29 October. I would hold the party in my garden and they would bring the presents. And apparently, you get some Windows 7 party pack, too.

All I have to say to this is

Are those like Tupperware parties?

I probably won't rush out and buy Windows 7, although next year I would like to get a new computer

I'd probably want to go to it.

Judging from how things look now... if I can't download 7 I'll be sticking with XP and Vista. Might stick with XP on here anyway until I get a HD I can back shit up onto, but I'm not quite sure.

There's a Y3K bug? I know of Y2K, Year 2038, and even Y10K, and people who think the world will end in 2012.

Windows 3.1 had a funny Y2K issue Like it wiould go 1998, 1999, 19:0, 19:1, etc.

How would they know you're having a party so they could bring the presents?

: is the next ASCII character after 9 so it makes sense in a way, and it reminds me of an old message board system where it went 1999 -> 19100

And MacOS before X would overflow in 2040 (looping back to 01-01-1904) ...

Changing the date on Windows XP lets me pick from 1980 to 2099, not sure what happens in 2100

And the Commodore 64 didn't even track the date at all, so it had no Y2K problems

Some people thought that cars and watches and even toasters would fail when 2000 started

Would the Blue Bread of Death pop out of the toaster?

And then of course there'd be the $999.99 Apple iToaster, which only works with Apple iBread

I think it will. Shit; I hope it does.

I'll form a gang of road warriors and tax people their food, water, gasoline, and women in exchange for safe passage through my nuclear wasteland.

(until a certain successor to a certain martial art *cough*hokutoshinken*cough* persuades me to do otherwise)

I just noticed the german 3.1 SI screen Kassad posted had a button labeled "druck"

Since I don't know much German, I'm just going to assume that it's a drunk duck.

I think it might mean "print". Or is that drück? I tended to confuse words that only differed by the presence or absence of an Umlaut

drucken = to print, druck = imperative (command) form.
drücken = to push, to press, drück = imperative (command) form.

This should answer your question.

Yeah, now I remember doors saying "ZIEHEN" or "DRÜCKEN" depending on if you were supposed to push or pull them. I learned that the USA isn't the only country with confusing doors
